Flashback A month ago

"Rosé!" A blond came hoping in the kitchen.

"She's out to get the groceries kiddo" Miss Karen replied with a smile as she sliced the vegetables on the wooden board.

"Oh. ." Lisa pouted.

Miss Karen let out a chuckle seeing the disappointed blond. She then placed the vegetables in a bowl and came to sit at the kitchen table.

"I sent her out for a reason. Take a seat i want to talk with you"

Miss Karen looked serious all of a sudden and it made Lisa worried.

"Are you alright Miss Karen?" She asked with a concerned voice as she sat on the chair opposite to Miss Karen's.

The old lady kindly shook her head and continued "I'm fine. . ." She then fiddled with her wrinkled fingers nervously "There's something I've been hiding from you both. . . especially from Rosé"

"Hiding?" Lisa asked blinking a few times.

Miss Karen took an unsteady breath in as her fingers laced onto each other.

"Miss Karen what is it?" Lisa asked placing her hand on Miss Karen's.

.

.

" Rosé is my granddaughter" She finally spoke.

.

.

"What?" Lisa sat at her place in shock.

A few more minutes passsed by in silence when Miss Karen struggled to get the words out "Seventeen years ago i left my granddaughter at the gates of Gloriavale Christian community"

Lisa parted her lips to utter something but only silence followed on.

"You must think I'm a h-horrible Grandmother" Miss Karen's face contorted in pain "And you have all the reason to think that way. . . But i was pushed to my limits to take this step"

.

"Why? Why did you do that to her!" Lisa slipped her hand away from Miss Karen's, hurt clearly visible in her eyes.

A tear soon dropped from Miss Karen's hooded eyelashes.

"My son loved her wife dearly and we all lived in this house with peace and harmony . . . As Erica got pregnant with Rosé, Austin lost his job. But the hope of their baby coming was enough for them to work hard for their future. All was well till the doctor told us that only the mother or the child might survive " Miss Karen stopped at this moment as she continued to stare blankly at her hands.

"And Rosé survived " Lisa completed the remaining story.

Miss Karen could only nod at this. She then wiped a falling tear from her thumb and continued "Austin was d-devastated to lose the love of his life and blamed his child for the death. He wasn't in his right mind anymore and loathed his own daughter. . . I had to protect my granddaughter from his madness"

Lisa couldn't believe what she was hearing and her heart throbbed at the thought of Rosé's blood father hating her this much.

"I couldn't hand over my own s-son to the police so i decided to leave my granddaughter at the gates of the God fearing people. . . . I didn't wanted her to grow up knowing she was the cause of her mother's death and was loathed by her own father" Miss Karen sobbed remembering the past "I believed they'll take pity at the small child and let her live. . . I waited a few hours at the gate and they finally took her in"
