Chapter 12

Something was different today. Daehyun could feel it. He felt kinda... floaty, happy for no reason.

He couldn't put his finger on why, but he knew it had something to do with his fluffy best friend.

Daehyun watched as Youngjae warmed up his voice, going up and down the scale. His eyes closed in concentration and his melodic voice drifted through the air, as if it were a breeze on a hot day.

Daehyun couldn't help but stare at him, but he had no idea why. He raised his arms and cupped his cheeks with his palms, only to find that his face had heated up considerably.

He wondered, his body was reacting to something, but he couldn't pin-point what. He couldn't figure it out for the life of him, and it was confusing him to no end.

As he was dazed and in his own world, Youngjae had finished his warm ups and was making his way over to Daehyun.

"Hey buddy! What cha doing? Are you daydreaming? Hellooooooooo?" Youngjae drawled out teasingly.

When this elicited no response, the younger boy brought his face closer to Daehyun's, poking his hyung on the nose.

Daehyun snapped out of his daze, only to see the source of his confusion's face all up in his own.

He felt his cheeks heating up even more, and he swore his face was as red as Junhong's cherry tomatoes. He resisted the urge to look at his friend's luscious red lips, but to no avail.

On the other hand Youngjae didn't notice his hyung's strange behavior and walked over to Himchan, brushing the encounter off as one of Daehyun's 'off days'.

What the heck, I'm turning into an anime Japanese schoolgirl who just had her first crush!

Daehyun screamed at himself, facepalming for added effect.

He forced his mind to focus on his surroundings, but Youngjae's beautiful face kept appearing in his head every time he blinked.

What's happening to me? I'm smart enough to know that these are signs of a crush, but to my knowledge I was never gay!

WAS is the keyword Daehyun. Anyways, back to the story.

He licked his lips as he felt them becoming dry and placed his hands on his hips. He sighed forlornly, doing one of his signature hair flips.

Once again he couldn't help himself when he brought his head up to look at Youngjae, who smiled in response.

Daehyun felt an ache in his heart, but he forgot the pain and grinned back. He could feel his insides warming up in Youngjae's presence.

He flashbacked to all his moments with the other vocalist, but couldn't determine when he had apparently fallen for the other guy.

He just makes me happy. That's all I can really be sure of in terms of my feelings for him.

Daehyun smiled sadly to himself, but refused to think of the bad side of things, the negatives of his newly found affection.

The day went on, so Daehyun had no other choice but to put his inner turmoil on the back burner. But he soon learned that he needed to gain more self control in the coming days.

He was significantly more aware of the skinship between him and Youngjae, when before he paid no mind to it. Now, every touch made him shiver slightly, and every friendly arm over the shoulder made him want to pull his friend closer, closer than what would be appropriate for friends.

He listened to Youngjae's voice more closely than ever, feeling a sense of peace and serenity as his  soothing voice swirled around his head, as if it were the only thing worth hearing.

He also acquired a new habit. He frequently scrolled through Youngjae's instagram page, admiring all his impossibly perfect selcas.

Yes, he seemed like a stalker but he had an excuse, right? It doesn't count as stalking if he was best friends with the guy...Maybe.

He knew he had no chance to be with the Apple of his eye, he knew that society would have no mercy(wink wink) on him for his ludicrous feelings. The Korean community shunned homosexuals, and he would lose his life, lose B.A.P, his friends, his fans, and...Youngjae.

But even so, he longed for his friend.

FRIEND. The title mocked him, as if it had a corporeal body, and was sticking out its tongue at him, constantly reminding him that it was hopeless and he was disgusting.

But despite all that, despite all the odds, Daehyun couldn't convince himself to give his feelings up, to throw them away, to at least pretend they didn't exist. He yearned for Youngjae, his touch, his smile, his company.

He slapped himself mentally, chuckling to himself.

You idiot, you effing idiot.

He knew that he brought the pain upon himself, but love was uncontrollable. It gives either happiness or sadness to any person it wishes.

Daehyun just got the short end of the stick, was in the wrong situation in the wrong lifetime.

He learned to live with the constant ache in his heart, learned to live with the need to always put up an act.

But he couldn't keep it up forever, he knew that. He just hoped, hoped with every cell of his being that it'd all be over.
