A Way Out

Part VI: No Turning Back

We pull into Lilys airfield and up to the main house. She walks out of the front door to greet us.

You guys got the guns? Lily asks as we step out of the truck. Shawn pats the crate in the back.

Plenty of them sweetheart. He smiles at her. She then turns her attention to me.

So, where is he? She asks me, my face going pale.

Little Havana, Lily theres a rat in his organization. I explain as I hear Shawn and Mac unloading guns. Lily looks on, shocked.

Who? She asks. I shake my head and shrug my shoulders. She looks down at the ground and back at me.

I think its best you stay here, get out of Florida. I look around to see if anyone is around. She looks at me with a concerned look.

Why? I could help. She puts her hand on my shoulder. I could see Shawn and Mac playing with guns in the distance near the garage.

Lily, if there is a rat working for him, who knows what could happen? I explain to her, her frown growing.

I cant just let you guys do this on your own.

Lily, you know Shawn would agree with me. You need to be safe, and I need you to take care of Hailey and Luke in case we get caught.

Please Lily, you are all they ot, I messed that up a long time ago. I look at her, tears slowly sliding onto my face. She hesitates, then slowly nods and hugs me. I look at the ground, trying to not make a scene. We stop hugging and she gestures for me to follow her over to the other two.

We got your favorite gun on the menu Leo. Shawn says smiling. He holds up an assault carbine. I grab it from him and aim down sights.

Good find Shawn. I say, lowering the gun to my side. Mac smiles holding a shotgun.

So, whats the plan? Lily says, looking at Shawn as he plays with a handgun.

Well, I did find come C4. I was thinking that we could place charges on the main gate, blow the so that the guards are distracted, and we come in through his pool area. Shawn says. Lily nods slowly.

Then what? Mac asks.

We kill every god damn person we see until we reach Hector. Shawn smiles and chuckles a little bit. We all nod.

Get that C4 prepared as well as the guns, were going in today, I have to go talk to Hailey. I look at Shawn as he puts a hand on my shoulder.

She still loves you buddy, never question that. He says, patting me and I nod. I walk around the house and head towards the guest house. Hailey sits on the porch with Luke. As soon as they see me, she urges Luke to go inside. I stop at the steps leading up to the porch.

What do you want Leo? Hailey says to me, Luke shutting the door behind him. I stare into her eyes, then clear my throat.

I love you Hailey, I know Ive messed up everything, but everything I did was for you and Luke.

Leo, not this speech again. She says, slowly starting to turn away.

Hailey, please let me finish, this last time. I say, her eyes drifting. She faces me again, arms crossed.

I loved you Leo, then all of this happened.

Hailey, I just wanted a better life for us. I see that isnt what happened and Im sorry. Im going to make things right bay, Im going to finish Hector and get our money. I say to her, her frown growing.

Lily has done more for us than you ever did Leo. She says. I look towards the ground, my eyes watering.

Can I at least say bye to my son Hailey, please. I plead as I see him come out of the front door. He stands behind her, looking at me. She sighs then nods, Luke slowly coming out in front of me. I bask in his presence, looking at him for a moment.

Youre not quite as little anymore huh bud? I say, placing my hands on his shoulders.

I love you dad. He hugs me. His hug brought a warm, cozy feeling.

Listen Luke, you take care of your mom okay? Dad has a couple more things to take care of. I say, looking him in the eyes.

I will, but promise youll be back dad, please. He says. I look at him, smiling.

I promise son. I pull him in for another hug. We hug for about a minute before I hear my name in the distance.

Leo, were all loaded up! It was Macs voice. I sigh and slowly push my son away. He smiles, then sits on the step. I look at Hailey once more, her eyes shiny in the sun.

Ill be home soon okay. I say, turning and jogging towards the plane. Theres nothing in this world I love more than my family. I know Ive made mistakes that I have to live with, but in the end, everything was for them. Does that make me the good guy? I dont know, but I can sure as hell try to set things right.
