Hendrik William Nylander.
August, 17th 2018.

It's been exactly one month since we brought home our baby boy Hendrik from the hospital. It's been very overwhelming but weeks have went past and I think we are getting the hang of things, adjusting to having a 1 month old baby boy. I am amazed at how fast he is already learning about this world. One big thing that he loves is the baby rattle. Each day when it's time for tummy time, I see him slowly lift up his head more and more, holding it up the best he can. The moment that makes me the most proud and happy is when I hear his little laugh and see his smile with his chubby cheeks. My heart melts every morning when I look at him sleeping away in the crib.

It is true- when your baby naps, you nap. Hendrik takes about 6 naps during the day and pretty good at night although he has his days of crying through the night.
Yes, we feel super tired but soon enough he will eventually catch up with our sleep schedule and sleep through the night.

A while ago, before I had asked Christina to be the godmother, I just asked Mitch and Auston as we were just sitting on the couch watching TV. I just straight out came and asked them. No gifts like I did with Christina.
They both had said yes, but I wanted to ask them again. Especially since today is Austons birthday.

I dressed Hendrik in a T-shirt that had a cute little bow on it and said 'will you be my godfather?' I handed him Hendrik and waited until he seen it. He was confused because he already is but I wanted to get him an actual gift. When he said yes again, I have him a box with a shirt from the movie godfather.

Although it wasn't Mitch's birthday, I got him something to keep for saying yes to being a godfather too.
It was a baby onesie that said 'ask me about my single godfather' and along with that was a photo of Hendrik and Mitch when he was in the hospital, first born. To hang it up in their apartment, I put it in a glass frame.

For the past month and a half, there has been a lot of talk. What I mean by talk is trade talk. The sports talk shows, other teams said they were interested and even the leafs themselves has talked to Will about being traded. During the playoff series, he wasn't playing his best and that's because he played on a sprained ankle that no one knew about because he didn't want to miss it. When they knew it would take sometime to heal, that's when the rumors started to come out. It's scary as you hear things like that. You don't know where you'll end up. We just had a baby, moved in this house together, and I just started to work for group sales from home for the leafs.

"So, babe."
"Yesss..." I prolong out.
"I have some news."
I stop what I'm doing and look over at him. What could this possibly be? I ask myself.
"Okay..."
"We'll be stuck here for 2 more years." He comes out and says. We both smile and I jump up and give him a hug along with Hendrik who's in my arms.
"Did you hear that Henny? We're staying in Toronto." Will says in his baby voice talking to our 1 month old.

"So on Friday, my mom and Stephanie is going to be in town and they're going to take Hendrik out for the day if that's fine with you. She told me we need a date night."
"That we do need. I'm nervous though- not because of who he's going to be with. I'm perfectly fine with them having him. It's just it's the first time that we'll be away from him since he's been born."
"I want to take you out somewhere really nice to eat and we'll go somewhere fun" he tells me.

Friday.

"You about ready babe?" Will comes in the bathroom to see how long I'm going to take. I usually don't take long at all but I have no idea where we are going so I don't know how dressed up to be. "You look beautiful without any makeup. Don't do it. And what you're wearing is perfect."
I don't listen to what he says and I put on makeup, but not a lot. For my hair, I have it down for once and lightly have it curled. For my clothing, I have on plain black flowy pants, my red bottom heels, and a black body suit that's off the shoulder. The weather is just right for me so I don't need a jacket or anything. I grab my blue crossbody purse and before we head out the door, we both give Hen a kiss on the forehead and we say goodbye.
