The way I see wolves in fantasy is that they are protective creatures. They protect family above all and those they love.
In my book White Night wolves have characteristics that they still show when in human form.
While being human, their body temperature is higher which makes them warmer to the touch. A wolfs eyes also dilate when they are intensely in love but they also dilate when they feel a threat.
Wolves are angered easily and can be very dangerous if they don't attempt control over themselves. They also have very good hearing while in human form or wolf form.
At 10 years old, the kids of a pack are told stories of their tribe and what they are. After that, they have their first turn from age 10 to 13.
As they go through puberty, the kids start to have dreams about their mate. They can't see their mates face but they get to know their mate's feelings and thoughts.
It is said to be unusual for a mate to be human but it does happen every hundred years.
A wolf has to stay in wolf form while there is a full moon. They don't have full control over themselves when there is a full moon unless their mate is in trouble.
The connection between a wolf and his mate is one that can't be broken unless the mate is human and chooses to become a vampire.
A witch is set in each place where creatures exist to maintain the coexistence of them and humans. It's the witches job to maintain balance in nature. If a witch fails, she is burned.
