"Can you hand me my fishnets Nattie." I asked my best friend while applying my lip gloss. It was Friday night I was off work and I wanted to get out the house. She asked me about this party a while back and I told her I didn't want to go because it was on the other side of town.

"30 mins for a party yo ass better be lucky I didn't want to stay in.."

Muttering to yourself won't change nothing none. Now hurry up my cousin said it's going to get packed, cause apparently it's his homeboy birthday or some shit." Nattie said. This girl was practically my sister. I knew her as the girl next door. After my mom left my dad, he enrolled me and my brother  in a better school and wound up having drinks with my 2nd grade teacher. Nattie's mom saw him get rejected at the bar and bought him a drink. Oddly enough she lived right across the street and introduced him to her daughter.

We've been friends for 20 years, and when I left and got my own place  with my brother she followed suit right across the hall like good ole times.

"Here babe." She said handing me my fishnets. She was rocking some black thigh high boots and a red Jersey dress with her hair in a slicked back ponytail that went all the way down to her ass. Her caramel skin town glistening with the oil she put on.

"Yo Trin?" My brother announced my name knocking on my door.

"Yea Trey?"

"Be careful tonight. Are you sure you don't want to roll with me?" He asked me. He didn't mind me going out, but my safety was the main thing on his mind.

"Yeah no it's fine I've heard how it is over there. I'll be safe I promise." I reassured him.

"You look good baby." He said glancing at Nattie.

They had been a thing on and off for years only until last year Trey started taking her seriously. He hasn't messed with anyone since. Realizing that she wasn't going anywhere and that she actually had his best interest at heart. He told me right up he saw something in her, and he wanted to  keep her in good arms.

"Thank you baby you come home when we leave or you hittin tonight?" She asked him while smoothing out the wrinkles in his shirt.

"It's not one on the books, but imma chill with the guys for a while till it quiet down. If I'm not in by 3am don't wait up. " He said looking at her but speaking to the both of us.

Trey ran the street, but never brought it home. I was in online school for my bachelors and working all most full time at the hospital. I paid the bills with clean money and he gave it right back with what he made out there. I never wanted to be in the streets so I kept on the path I knew my daddy wanted me to stay on.

Glancing at myself in the mirror one last time I fixed my braids and followed everyone out the door.

Walking into the club I went straight to the corner with Nattie, Trey heading in the other direction. Harlem. I wasn't use to it down here, but I didn't fear anything. Everywhere you walk is someone's territory, no one could bother me so I didn't stay as sheltered. Taking the Whiskey and ice from Nattie we danced the night away.

"Baby girl, he he has been running his eyes through you all of 20 fucking minutes." nattie semi screamed in my ear over the music. I followed her eyes and saw him sittin at the bar sipping out his cup talking to someone.

"How nice, the birthday boy is eyeing me." I smirked. I knew of him word gets around about who trades and who doesn't my brother worked for him. Downing my drink I look at Nattie.

"Honey, you a grown ass woman you can mess with whom ever, but like Trey say make sure you're careful." She said.

Nodding my head I walked towards him watching as his friend walked away looking dawn away from me. Sitting on the stool next to him I look at bartender. "Whiskey with ice-"

"Ma you don't have to buy me-" He interrupted me.

"For me please." I side eyed me.

He looked down at his cup. "Happy Birthday Kilo." I said to him.

Looking up from his glass he smirks at me.

"So you know me?" He asks.

"I don't actually. I know of you and that's enough for me to play some by ear, I don't judge based off others word." I told him.

I'm not one to judge people do fucked up shit in life, and sometimes that's the only way to get by. Get in how you live and do right by you that's my mantra. I sized him up, his  shoes his fit his appeal. His body language screamed he didn't want to be here so here I was wondering why he wasn't out doing something he actually wanted to do.

"Why you had someone throw you a bash ig you don't even want to be here." I asked him shaking my head.

Shaking his head he looks at me. "Too much could pop off in a club. I really don't being in crowds unless I'm up there." He said pointing to the balcony at the top of the club. Only the big ballers go up there. The only person who was up there now and days was 3rd. He had some stupid ass story of how he became who he was, but I don't know the real from the fake so I chose not to believe anything.

All of a sudden I hear arguing on the far side of the club, then shots popped out. Quickly he grabbed me and ran me out to the back door. Running out the back I heard him making a call, the music too loud for me to hear what was said. Busting out the back door I'm pulled into a black challenger.

"You good Ken?" This boy in the front spoke too nonchalant for my liking.

"Yeah, I'm fine, had to grab this one right here cause she don't look like she can fend for herself.

Rolling my eyes I pulled my phone out and called Nattie letting her know I am safe and sound.

"Yeah no no I am fine I promise Trey. Yeah I'm being brought home now. Yes I love you too, I'll see you tomorrow. " I spoke hanging up catching his eye.

"Boyfriend clocking you?" He slyly muttered turning to the window.

"No that was my brother actually. He wants to make sure I'm okay since he has my girl Nattie."

As I said her name the brother driving turned around and looked at me. "Nattie? That's my cousin, oh fawk meh. Yous Trinity me cousin home girl. Names Tybee. " His thick accent flowed through the car. Shaking my head I said what's up and directed him to my house.

Getting out the car I was met with Nattie exiting Trey's. I watched Kilo walk to his car and dap him up.

"Alright Mouse I'll meet you at the house." Kilo said as I stared in the window raising my eyebrows.

"Lock the door when you walk in that house Trin. Nattie staying with you something feel off.." Trey started.

"I know. I got this be safe, love you." I said glancing at Kilo who had started observing us. "Thank you for getting me home." Keeping it short I looked at Nattie nodded my head and we walked out and into the apartment.  I enjoyed tonight minus the shooting. It's always some shit and you grown to get use to it. After showering and putting my braids in my bun and making sure nattie was good in Trey room, I locked the doors turned the lights out and went into my room.
