The echos of car revs flooded the car lot. The horde of cars being shown off here were something different and here Leo was, driving in something that is just barely running, the Nissan 180SX.
'Why did you make me come here?' Leo asked.
Evelyn grinned, 'I didn't do much, just a little bit of persuasion is all.'
Leo scowls, 'With this car, I won't be able to make any profit...'
Evelyn's grin turns into a smile, she was absolutely loving Leo's reaction. Leo focuses on a car in the distance, a Toyota Supra Mk IV. That belongs to one of the better racers, Leo thought. The Supra's owner was Bianca Collins as Leo already knew, she is the top racer in the street racing scene. There was a second car that looked like junk not to far from Leo's sight.
'I should be able to race him, he may be in my skill range.' Leo says.
'Maybe, but didn't your races down in Emerald Bay prove that looks can be deceiving?'
'Shh, I didn't lose that much!'
'You lost ninety percent of the races you entered.'
Leo groans, he lost that argument. He parks his car in an empty space, 'I'll just be looking around, call me if there is something.' Evelyn nods and Leo walks off to look at the cars.
~ 17 minutes later ~
Leo's phone starts ringing, he accepts the call, 'Hello?'
'Hey, it's Evelyn. Someone just challenged you to a race.'
Leo raised an eyebrow, 'That's a surprise... Alright, I'll give it a shot, no bets though.'
There was some talking in the background, 'She agreed.'
'Cool, I'll get over there.' Leo starts to walk back to his car, when he arrives, he sees a metallic black Nissan 370Z and the girl sitting on the hood, she nods her greeting.
'You own this 180SX?' she asked.
'Um... yeah, it isn't the best...' Leo says a bit shameful.
The girl shrugged, 'Gotta start somewhere... I'm Charlie by the way.' She holds her hand out for a handshake and Leo goes with it.
'Leo. That is a Nissan 370Z right? Nice car I've heard, I might get one at some point.'
Charlie grins, 'It isn't half bad, but there is better.... you want to get this race started?'
Leo smiles shyly, 'I guess... you will kick my ass though...'
Charlie nods and gets in her car and starts it up, the turbo lightly whistling behind the sound of the V6. Leo hops in the 180SX and starts it up, the pop up lights open and the two drivers move to the start line. The two cars get lined up and Charlie revs up her engine, Leo tried, but he stalled. His confidence dropped below zero as the crowd starts laughing, he gets the car started up again. A person stands in the middle of the cars out the front, he points at Leo, 'Ready?' Leo nods shyly as he clips his helmet on, Charlie gets pointed at next, 'I know you're ready!' He then yells out 'Go!' and the two cars launched off the line, the 370Z was pulling fast.
'Why'd I accept this?' Leo asked himself.
The first corner was coming up, it was a wide corner, Charlie knew to use a clutch kick here, Leo didn't, he used the handbrake and attempted to drift, he wasn't able to because he lost too much speed, Charlie shot through the corner, Leo tried to catch up but he wasn't getting any closer.
'Maybe I should slow down, give him a chance...' Charlie said to herself. She started to let off the throttle and then lightly tapped the brake, Leo only just caught up to her. Leo's face was covered with frustration, he still didn't know why he accepted the race. The two drifted through a sharp left, Leo hitting a car parked off the side, which damaged the rear bumper, leaving it hanging. The next corner had a wall on the outside, while Charlie slid around the outside, cutting closely with the wall, Leo hugged the inside, gripping all the way through, almost losing control as the rear started going out.
