Khushi turned around restlessly in her bed, her eyes still closed. She could not believe she still had not told Arnav It had been two days since her pregnancy tests had been confirmed, she had been giddy with happiness and rushed to arnav s office to tell him but stopped outside the building. It was their first wedding anniversary in two days and she wanted to make the moment even more special by telling him then.
Khushi wanted to kick herself for her decision now. Never having been good at keeping her own secrets, this was truly a test of her patience. Arnav had seen her throwing up in the bathroom and had insisted on going to the doctor, but Khushi had coaxed him out of it by saying that it was food poisoning. But tonight she would tell him, it was finally their anniversary, she thought smiling.
She was forced to open her eyes when she felt Arnav slip a ring on her finger and kissed her hand. She lifted herself up and comfortably fit in his arms, it was so natural. Arnav kissed her lips, long and sweet. "Happy Anniversary Khushi!!!! I think I should contact the Guinness Book people now. No man could have survived this long with you without doing some serious damage to his sanity!"
Khushi , who had been beaming up till now, pulled her lower lip slightly and then pulled Arnav's cheek, "Well Arnav don't pride yourself since you never had any sanity to lose in the first place. By the way, Happy Anniversary!" She turned her attention to her ring, it was platinum but had small diamonds glinting on it like little stars. She pulled him closer and kissed his chin. "It is gorgeous Arnav but I am sure it was Aunty or Anjali's choice."
Arnav pretended to sulk. "Anjali approved but it was my choice. But I don't see you with any gift for your loving husband." Khushi for the first time felt shy with Arnav and said in a soft whisper, "You'll get it in the evening." ":Evening?" Arnav repeated trying to look outraged Khushi patted his cheek pitifully, "Patience is a virtue sweetheart." Changing the topic, she asked, "What are we doing today?" Arnav noticed her dreamy expression. Kissing the tip of her nose, he replied, "I had planned to stay in our bedroom all day but fate had other plans. " Khushi rolled her eyes and he continued, "Mom wanted to throw a bash but I convinced her not to, telling her I have a very romantic date planned with my wife in the evening." "For now, you can plan that date in the bathroom" she said pushing him off the bed. As soon the bathroom door shut, Khushi hugged her pillow. When will this night come?
They returned from their date pretty late at night, they had a wonderful time. Arnav and Khushi had waltz danced in the hotel's ballroom. It had been her first such dance but she was amazed at their coordination, the way their bodies swayed gracefully to the music was as if they had done this hundreds of times. It always brought a smile to her face at the number of times Arnav had surprised her. It was her turn now.
Arnav entered their room and kicked off his shoes. Khushi was downstairs since Anjali was pumping her for all the details of their big night out. He grinned and opened his drawer to find his papers for the next day's presentation. They weren't there. He frowned and remembered, he had thrown them in Khushi's drawer in a hurry. He opened her drawer and found them but another file caught his eye. A medical report.
Arnav thought his heart was definitely going to burst out of his chest and he grabbed it, horrid visions swimming through his mind. He skimmed through the pages, and his eyes froze on the last one. Mrs. Khushi Arnav singh raizada is pregnant.
Arnav read that sentence again and again till a smile slowly broke on his face. A broad one. He was going to become a father, he felt like screaming it to the world. He would teach his son how to become the best footballer in the whole world. Or train his daughter karate so no idiotic guy could mess with her.
But suddenly arnav stopped smiling. Why hadn't Khushi told him yet? He now remembered her words at the cottage, no kids till one year. Her graduation was next month ant she had planned to join his office after that. His heart sank as he realized that a baby at this stage was not what she wanted, it would ruin her career plans.
Khushi literally ran up the stairs, it was time to tell Arnav now. When she entered the room, Arnav was already holding the file, his expression unreadable. Khushi came up to him and pouted, "It was supposed to be a surprise!" She looked elated, so happy that Arnav forgot his doubts for a moment but framed her face gently in his hand. "Are you happy Khushi?" he asked quietly. Khushi looked at him in shock. "Arnav pregnant women are supposed to have mood swings, what happened to you? Of course I am happy, we are having a baby!"
Arnav desperately wanted to believe her but needed to ask one question. "Your career Khushi? You did not want to start a family yet. Your career will be on hold for so long. You haven't even graduated yet!" He looked almost guilty, Khushi realized and burst out laughing and kissed him. "Whenever I think I can't possibly love you more Arnav, you give me more reason to. Our baby is there because of our love and I love him or her already. As for my career, there are certain advantages of being the boss's wife. I'll join you as soon as our child can be left home for a few hours with Uncle and Aunty."
"Promise?" Arnav asked. Khushi simply nodded her head and whispered, "Mind showing your true feelings now?" "Sure" he replied and picked her up in his arms, twirling her around and screaming in joy while Khushi giggled. He carefully put her down and hugged her tightly. "How many weeks?" he asked. "Three" she replied ruffling his hair.
Just then the trio, as in Arnav's parents and Anjali, entered the room after the door sprang open. "What happened? Why was Bhai screaming like a madman?" Anjali asked breathlessly. Arnav fondly placed his hand on Khushi s stomach and said, "You are going to be an aunt!" What followed was another round of screaming and shrieking as everyone could not contain their excitement at the news of a new bundle of joy entering their lives.
