Loreen checked her watch one more time as she jogged up the steps into the science building. She was one minute late to her astronomy class. A class she was regretting. As much as the stars fascinated her, she was having trouble wrapping her mind around the concepts.

She reached her classroom and pulled on the door. She let out a huge sigh when the door didn't budge. She had been locked out. Her stupid scooter had decided to not work and now she was barred from class.

"God damn it." She muttered then slowly walked back outside to stand on the sidewalk. She pulled her scarf up to cover her mouth against the chill. Arizona may get a bad rep for being hot but the winters were still chilly. Not as cold as it could be. It didn't snow in Pheonix.

"Now what..." She said aloud. A cough sounded behing her and she whirled around to see David, a fellow astronomy classmate. She smiled.

"Were you late, too?" she asked. He nodded and patted the stair he was sitting on.

"I don't think we are doing anything too important today." He said as Loreen settled down next to him. She shook her head.

"Finals are coming up soon. Everything we do in class is critical." She said and sighed once again. She wasn't too worried or she would be banging on the door till her professor let her in. She was doing great in all of her classes. Except maybe math. But she was trying her hardest.

"I'd stick around but I already texted Jimmie that class was cancelled. He is expecting me at the MU. It's our one year tomorrow." He smiled as he thought about the dark haired hotty he called 'boyfriend'. Loreen smiled.

"That's alright. I need to go to the library anyway." They both stood up and she hugged him goodbye. She didn't head to the library, like she had said. Instead she walked to bridge that crossed over University. It was a little bit windy but she liked to watch all the people mill about below her. People drove under the bridge and others rode bikes and skateboards. She smirked slightly as one guy face planted on the sidewalk.

The sound of Green Day's Carpe Diem broke through her peaceful viewing and she fished her cell phone out of her pocket.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Hey, you missed class." Dillon said. Loreen had met Dillon in her first semester at ASU. He had been in her Freshman 101 class. They had hit it off immediately. They had decided to take Astronomy together, hoping that having a friend would make it easier. If anything, it made it worse. Dillon was always making Loreen crack up.

"Yeah, scooter problems." Was her explaination.

"Again? You really should let me have a look at that thing." He said, his voice slightly breathless. Loreen rolled her eyes.

"Just because your father is a mechanic doesn't mean you are." She said with an amused laugh. The call suddenly went dead and she looked at her trusty droid in confusion.

"BAH!" Dillon said as his arms wrapped around her torso.

"HOLY SHIT!" Loreen screamed and nearly dropped her phone. She tucked it back into her pocket and crossed her arms with a frown. She refused to acknowledge Dillon's presence. He laughed and let her go to lean against the railing.

"Let's go get some food." He said. She raised her eyebrow and turned away from him. "I'll pay..." His voice trailed off. Damn. A free meal always won her over.

"Okay. Let's go." Loreen smiled at him and skipped down the steps.

"I thought the saying was "Food is the best way to a man's heart.'" Dillon grumbled. She chose to ignore him.

They ended up at Five Guys, a burger joint. Loreen was happily munching on her fries when a few sorority girls walked in. One was in her math class. The one she recognized looked over and spotted Loreen. The girl smiled widely and waved.

"Hey! Lori! How are you?" She asked as she plopped down in the chair next to her. Loreen winced at the use of the nickname. It would always sit wrong. The other girls followed slowly, giving Dillon looks of disgust. He wasn't exactly the clean shaven frat boy of their dreams. Loreen was rather fond of his scruffy look...

"Hello, Lena. I'm fine and dandy. And yourself?" She asked. Dillon was looking out the window with a bored expression.

"I'm great. So listen, there is this party going on tonight. Do you want to come?" She asked. Loreen looked at Dillon but he was still staring out the window.

"Sure. Where at?" She asked. Lena fussed with her purse for a moment then withdrew a pen and paper. She wrote down the address and slid it into Loreen's waiting hand.

"Awesome! See you tonight!" She gushed then got up to go stand in line. Her sorority sisters followed quickly. One did not look pleased. She began wispering harshly to Lena who looked upset.

"I wonder what that's about." Dillon said, apparently checking back into the conversation. Loreen shrugged.

"So... Want to come to this party with me? I'd bring Jo but you know her... not much of a partier." She said. He pretended to think it over.

"Okay. But you owe me." He said with a serious face. Loreen rolled her eyes. He was a party animal. He should be thanking her. Not the other way around.

"Alright. Well I have to get to my last class of the week. Pick me up at eight?" She asked. He nodded. She waved goodbye and started the journey across campus to her Anthropolgy class.
