She closes the door and jumps on the floor like crazy. Anyone could tell by the redness on her cheeks that something wonderful has happened to her today. The fact that a boy has asked her out was simply unbelievable for her. Never in 19 years of her life had someone asked her out, and the reason was quite clear. Since childhood, she has been surrounded by friends who were extraordinarily beautiful and intelligent. It was not like she was unattractive or less intelligent, but the perfection of her friends over-shadowed her wits every time. However, it was finally her who is asked by a guy, and it was quite unbelievable for her.
Ali was a third-year student, and she had her eyes upon him from the time she came to the university. He was an average looking guy, but he had the personality that can simply attract anyone, and this might be the reason for his popularity in the department. The memory was still crystal clear before her eyes of when the first time they exchanged looks and how a mixture of feelings erupted in her stomach. Then, fast-forward to the day when he texted him for the first time, and she had no idea what to write and at that crucial time, she fathoms the importance of emojis. Afterward, the exchange of messages became a routine, and one day out of nowhere, he came in the library and initiated a conversation like they have talked many times before. He was so comfortable that it impressed the hell out of her, and she simply falls in love. Finally, one day he came and the first thing that came from his mouth was 'Do you want to go out with me?' And she copied his unapologetic and spontaneous attitude and said a big 'YES' instantly.
It is Friday and tomorrow is her big day. One could tell that something is going on with her by the condition of her room. A pile of colorful clothes sitting on a computer chair, jewelry and makeup scattered all around the shiny white floor and there she is in a corner swatching lipstick shades on her arms. She almost looked like a professor in a laboratory trying to mix lipsticks to get the closest match to her clothes. A sky blue shirt pressed and hanged on the rod of her bedroom curtain with red, yellow, orange, and pink floral designs printed all over the shirt. A pair of tops with a nearly invisible necklace was neatly set on the table and by the time she puts the selected lipsticks on the table, tiredness was dancing in her eyes. However, sleeping was for sure a hard task for her, and she knew it so she picked her phone and decided to talk about it with her friend who has been with her since school time. 'hello traitor', an unimpressive voice bob-up from the other side of the phone. 'Hey, not today, I want to tell you something', she said. 'Okay, bring it on'. 'um, I am going on a date tomorrow and I can't sleep. It's my first date and what if I say something silly or offensive, and what if I spit out some food on the table while talking, ahh'. 'You are going on a date. One second, whatttt, you are going on a damn date and you didn't tell me anything about it, go to hell'. 'Heyy, it just happened in no time and now I am seriously nervous', she said anxiously. They talked for hours until she glanced at the clock and it was 4 am. No other option was left except to put her phone down and to sleep because all she wanted tomorrow was her last two brain cells to work properly.
She woke up on a striking alarm of a rooster's scream. It was exactly noon, and she had only 3 hours left before her lunch date. Her eyes were widened when the first few drops of cold-water splashes on her body and with the water, nervousness also started to creep up into her body. She noticed her hands shivering when she tried to put eyeliner but somehow a shaky black line was not looking bad at all with the perfect make-up. She brushed her teeth repeatedly and sprayed perfume more than a hundred times before stepping out of her house.
As she walked to the café, her legs were shaking and she could feel her heart exploding with happiness. He was already there and could be seen reading something from a book through the transparent door. 'Breathe, goddamn it, breathe', she said to herself. After several other motivational whispers to herself; she finally find the courage to enter and he instantly looked at her the second she opened the door. 'Hey, I am sorry I am a little late'. 'No you are not; I am clearly 10 minutes early, now have a seat'. 'So, have you got your results', he asked it the second she sat and showed the same spontaneity he is famous for. 'Yes, only of a single subject.' Talking to him was easy; he made it easy. She had never been so comfortable around anyone; there were no awkward silences as he always bought up something interesting to talk about. Everything was effortless yet flawless.
They talked comfortably about random topics for almost 20 minutes until the food arrived. He ordered chowmein, and she ordered pizza because it's a safe food. It does not make any mess and has the least bit of chances of spitting out while one is talking if one takes small bites. 'So, who gets the highest marks', he said while putting a fork full of noodles in his mouth. 'It's my friend Sonia; I don't think you know her; she is the one with colored hair'. She said while looking down and slicing a small bite through the help of a knife and fork. 'Oh, I know her; everyone knows her because she is quite popular, and now I know she is intelligent too', he said casually. 'Yes, now let's see who will get highest in the Majors, she said casually. He thought for a bit before speaking and then he finally spoke, 'Ya, about Sonia, I messaged her but she did not reply, so I thought I should talk to you about her. You know I kind of like her, and I thought you are my friend and hers too so you can talk to her about me'. A soggy piece of bread projected directly from her mouth on the table as she coughed. That day, a cloud of disappointment surrounded her because of a big revelation that Pizza is not a safe food to order on a 'date'.
