Chat Noir heard a girl's soft whimper, and the sound of falling tears.
"Princess... I'm sorry..." He murmured from afar, watching her as she cried on her balcony.
It was his doing that led her to cry. His, nobody else's. The night before, Ladybug had full-on rejected his heart. The next day, with bloodshot eyes, this same day, he - as Adrien Agreste - had been so cold to her when she was trying to offer him a present. It was his fault, not hers.
With a small groan, he decided that he'd best fix his mistake. Before she would be akumatized, and lost into a dark void. Jumping onto her roof, he landed beside her.
"Princess? Is something wrong..?" Chat Noir asked, acting confused. "Is it about what Adrien Agreste did today?" He shyly asked. Marinette's eyes wandered to Chat Noir's, her tear stained cheeks, a beautiful rose color. "Oh, Princess..." He mumbled, thrusting her face into his chest, his own becoming buried in her hair. "C-Chat?" She whispered, trying to move her head to look up at him. Chat kept her face away from his own, as tears started to fill his eyes.
"Don't look at me, I beg you," he softly said. In his eyes, he was a monster. All he did was hurt others, maybe that was the true reason he was chosen to have the Kwami of destruction.
All I do... Is destroy..
But, Chat wanted to be able to build others up. He didn't understand, why couldn't he be able to stay kind, keep others happy.
He couldn't even please his own father.
Marinette shook her head. "Please, Kitty, let me look at you. Why can't I?" Her voice asked, quivering. He shoved his face further into her hair, not allowing her to move. "Because... I'm a terrible person. And I don't deserve to have my Princess' face look at me, not with the monster I am." He said in a hushed voice. Marinette let out a small breath. "Chaton, you are no monster. You're kind, smart, witty, charming, at times, and loyal kitty, Chaton. Don't think less of yourself, please." Her eyes lowered. "Without you, Paris is nothing..."
With Marinette's kind words, Chat Noir was practically sobbing into her hair. "I'm nothing compared to Ladybug to help Paris, though. Without her- no Akumas would be cleansed, or her ideas, and things wouldn't go back to normal-" His rant was cut off by a girl's yelling fit. "Ladybug isn't anything without her Chat Noir! If- If she didn't have him, then she wouldn't be able to do her plans! She wouldn't have a leaning shoulder! Ladybug wouldn't be able to be saved by her bestfriend, Chaton! You and Ladybug- That's the team. Without one, there is no other!" She started to cry uncontrollably into his chest.
"Marinette..." He trailed off, his face still stuck in her hair. "You don't know the things I do, without my suit, Mari. How many times I do something wrong, and it goes downhill. As just me all of my moves have to be perfect. No mistakes. But here, as Chat Noir, I can do anything... Almost. I can't stop my heart from aching from seeing the partner I so dearly love reject its love, and I surely can't stop myself from feeling so horrid that I couldn't stop your tears..."
The tears I caused.
Finally, she was able to escape his grasp enough to look up at him.
"No matter what you've done, to me, you are no monster. Chat Noir, you're a good cat." She murmured before flicking his bell and heading towards her "door" back into her room. "Get home and get some rest, Kitty. I don't like it when you cry because of a girl who doesn't deserve your tears," she said, looking back at him with a soft smile. Graciously, he returned the smile.
"As my Princess wishes. But, know that I'll return soon." And with that, he was gone, into the night.
The tears they shed that night, were just the beginning of a road to more sorrow, but to eventually end up with warm love.
Tears are shed for those whom you hold dearly. The dense teens would soon find out, that the tears they shed were beautifully for the other. With no regrets.
