Dean Winchester; a man so sensitive yet privy to the facade of pure masculinity. It was true, he did love Cora Jenkins yet these words were never uttered between the pair during their years together… they didn’t need to be. A simple glance had the affect of those three words, whether that be a smile or just the plain brevity of eye contact. Both knew that their love for each other was eternal. And that’s why he had to leave her. He had to protect her. The infamous hunter knew of the impact of his presence - those whom he loved, and who loved him, would always perish in the end. Yes, that was part of the inevitability of life - our self-awareness brings an unsettling awareness for our indefinite demise - yet the Winchester’s carried a curse: they bring about the death of those important to them before their time. It’s almost as if they are the omen signalling your doom.
It was in the early hours of a Tuesday morning when Dean realised he must leave. It was his fault that Cora had been brought back into this dangerous world, bringing her nightmares to life. He lay there, eyes wide, unable to drift into any kind of slumber. He felt her hot breath on his chest, causing goosebumps to rise with every exhale. Sighing for a final time, he cautiously moved from underneath her (doing his best not to wake his sleeping lover) and placed her head gently on the pillow. He couldn't suppress the smile on his face as he watched her cuddle the pillow, obviously confusing it with him. Silently walking over to the pile of his clothes, he dressed himself, not bearing to look at the beautiful woman in fear of relinquishing his plan for her safety. Inhaling deeply, he quickly surveyed the room - partly because he wanted to make sure it was free from harm, but also because he wanted to briefly reminisce on the times he shared with Cora, whether that be sexual, affectionate (in a less sexual way), distasteful passion, or the times of pure childishness, like when he fell off her bed at five in the morning, causing her to laugh incredibly at the sight of a bewildered Dean Winchester. There was no mistaking that she was the most important person in his life - excluding his little brother. Finally, he crept back over to Cora's peaceful body, softly planted a kiss filled with so much tenderness onto her temple, and whispered those three words:
"I love you."
