“Everything. Absolutely everything will and can go wrong. I’m Sub by the way- “
Snap. I looked at my pencil that broke in half. Again. It happened. AGAIN. I throw that pencil at the wall in anger, the pencil came back for it's revenge and hit me in the eye. “OW- GOD.” I instantly put my hands over my eye. I took a pen and wrote something down, “Don't throw any pencils. At all.”. As I was saying...I'm Sub. Sub Zero. I'm simply a nobody, no one notices I'm there and I'm glad they don't. I don't speak much because of my “condition” it's not because I'm a mute, or shy but because of this curse. My mom says it isn't a curse, that I just have bad timing...that's a lie. She knows good and well that it's a curse. I'm not an absolute loner, I have a close friend. His name, Elijah. Elijah Best. He’s about the only person I’ll ever talk to, he’s the only person that stayed by my side even though I was pretty much a living bad luck charm. He’s pretty popular among everyone, it still confuses me why he chose to stick by me. Well, him and his twin brother, Ethan. They’re two of the closest friends I’ve ever had, even if we did start off as internet friends. Who says internet friends aren't real friends? My phone started to ring, I took it out of my pocket still having my other hand over my eye. “Y-Yes?” I answer. “Sub...I'm outside, hurry up before we miss the bus.” you could hear his smile over the phone. I swear it was like a disease, it could spread. I smiled lightly, “You do know we’re gonna miss the bus anyway, Right? You might as well go without me so you’ll be on time.” My smile fades slowly. “..That's dead. I'm not leaving without you, I don't feel like going to school, the more I can delay it the better.” I heard him laugh. My smile quickly revived itself, “You and me both.” I chuckle. “I'll see you in a bit” “Take it easy”. I hung up the phone and went to get my backpack. It was gone. Of course, it was. I began running around my room to look for it, “SUB THE BUS IS HERE” My mom yelled from downstairs. Forget it. I sprinted downstairs, “Love you, mom. Bye, Mom.” I kissed her cheek, grabbed my jacket and ran out the door. There stood Elijah holding two backpacks instead of one at the bus stop. He just smirked, I run up beside him. The bus had begun to drive off again, “Wanna race?” He throws me my backpack. “You’re on.” I begin to run instantly. “HEY-” He runs after me. “That's cheating!” He yells after me. I don't stop but look behind me, “Too bad!” I yell. “SUB LOOK OUT FOR THE-”
BANG.
“...Poll…” He finishes. I fall back, my head throbbing. Elijah leans over me, “Sub?” He asks. Everything starts to spin, his words sounding distorted. “I-I..W-Won…” I push out. I stare up at the sky dazed, then I see a bird. I wasn't sure if it was because I hit my head or an actual bird, whatever it was it normally doesn't mean it's good news. "...Shoot." I mumble and close my eyes. The bird poops,. I still have my eyes closed tightly. I hear rustling sounds from Elijah, a few seconds later my face is still dry. I slowly open up my eyes, Elijah holds an umbrella over my head. "Always be prepared for the worst." He chuckles. My vision slowly clears up, I smile, "You know me too well" he offers his hand and I take it. He helps me up slowly, "I know I do" he chuckles. "Come on let's get going.." I grab my backpack and begin walking again, Elijah behind me. There's something wet in my hair, I don't need to touch it to know what it is. Elijah holds in his laughter, "It isn't. Funny." I grumble. "I don't know it's sorta funny." He chuckles. I turn around and stomp back towards my house, "It's disgusting." Elijah follows me. "You did say you wanted to be delayed from going to school. You just got what you wished for" he says. "You are not helping at all." I tell him. "I'm just telling the truth" he says. I roll my eyes, and look through my pockets for my key. "Where is it.." I mumble. "You don't have it..do you?" Elijah asks. I groan loudly, "Nope." I say, tugging at the door handle. "Maybe your mom can let us in?" He suggests. "Mom leaves for work right after I leave for school." I say, pointing at the empty driveway. "Spare key?" I pause looking at him, "You're a genius." I say, looking through the bushes in front of our house. "Not really. I'll take the compliment though." He chuckles lightly. "OW, GOD-" I yell in pain, the keys hit the side of my eye then drops into my hand. I glare at Elijah, "What the HECK!?" I hold the side of my head. "That wasn't me!" He throws up his hands. I grunt, "Then who was it?" Elijah shrugs his shoulders, "I don't know!" He exclaims. I sigh, "Sorry..sorry..I'm annoyed." I open up the door and walk inside, Elijah behind me. "No you're just grumpy" he chuckles. "Am not" "Is so" "Am not" "Is so" He gives me a cheeky smirk. I roll my eyes and wet my hair in the sink, washing the bird feces out of it. Once I finished, I grabbed a towel and put it in my head, just in case. Elijah continued to make fun of me because of it. "You look like a mom who just got out the shower!" He laughed. "At least I take showers." I backfire. "I do take showers!" Elijah says. "Yeah but at least-" I see a shadow from the corner of my eye.
