Where am I?...I slowly open my eyes. Everything was such a blur. There's broken glass everywhere and I felt something warm cascade down my face. As my vision became clearer, I recognized where I was. I was in the backseat of my dad's car. But what I saw in front of me was absolutely traumatizing. It was my parents. They were both dead. Shards of glass piercing their bodies, blood dripping everywhere. I was still there, staring at them. My eyes became moister and moister by the passing minutes. Soon steams of tears came running down my cheeks. Soon enough, red, white and blue crowded my vision. The sound of an ambulance rang in my ears as I was being pulled out of the now devastated car by a couple of police officers. I didn't move a muscle as my parents and I were placed onto separate stretchers. I don't see why they would take my parents too. They were obviously dead. Why would they even bother trying to save them? That still was confusing me.

Then I saw something next to my dad's former car.  It was all black like a shadow.  But with two bright, white eyes, two horn-like things on the top of its head and instead of legs, it had a weird shadowy bottom with four curls.  I thought nothing of it at the time.  So, I later my head back and closed my eyes. Then the ambulance doors shut.

That was 6 years ago.  I'm 14 now.  I live in an orphanage, Raven's Orphanage (( I GOT THE NAME FROM A FANFIC I READ )) to be exact.  There were many other children but most of them were adopted by the time I was age 9.  Nobody liked me, because of that no one hung out with me.  I wasn't being bullied, just avoided.  It seems the only thing that has interest in me was this shadow figure.  The same one from that evening when my parents died.  It seems to appear at the worst times.  When I'm crying myself to sleep is when it usually comes.  I don't like it.  Every time I see it, I tell myself, "It's just your mind playing tricks on you.  You. Aren't. Going. Crazy!" But it somehow knew your denial.  That made it angry. The Lurker is angry.

I'm in my room once again.  I was getting sick and tired of being stuck in the orphanage.  I want to go.  So that's what I did.  I climbed out of my window and jumped down onto the side yard with ease.  I started running down the sidewalk.  I don't know where I'm going but I have to end up somewhere.  The cold winter air penetrating my skin even through my wool jacket.  I saw something in the distance.  It was a...playground?  I haven't been in one of those since I was young.  Running more briskly, I finally made it to the quaint playground.  I saw on one of the rusty, old swings.  "What was so fun about these?..." I muttered to myself quite harshly.  It wasn't long after until I stood up.  I thought leaving would be actually entertaining.  Apparently not.

I began walking back to the orphanage, the whole time looking down at my feet.  "Huh?" I questioned suddenly when I saw something slithering on the ground.  It seemed like a tail.  I followed it and it lead me to a pitch black alleyway.  I squinted my eyes, attempting to see into the alleyway.  Then two bright white eyes appeared.  I knew those eyes.  It followed me.  Why? What does it want from me?!  I don't care anymore.  It was obviously fake.  It wasn't real.  No matter how many times I have encountered it, it wasn't real!  I just grunted and walked away.

I was too frustrated to even listen to what the orphanage caretaker was ranting over when I arrived through the front door.  I went straight up to my room, locked it and sat in the corner.  I brought my knees up to my chest, and wrapped my around them, bringing them closer.  This is all I did for the past few days, brooding.  Lately I've been screaming hysterically every time it appeared in my room.  But then this time was different.  I laughed.  Maniacally.

It looked quite angry.  It gave me a grin, baring its sharp, animalistic-like teeth.  It seemed to have grown and earned more horns.  I laughed even more.  I finally gave in.

After all this time, this time that thing just wanted something from me.  My sanity.  That's what I gave it.  It slowly slithered over to me.  Staring at me.  And I stared at it back.  It used one of its curls to reach over and grab my arm with an agonizing grip.  Then it whispered to me, "Forever Linked..."
