AURORA LONGSTAND AND ELIANA HUNTER sat in the booth waiting for the others.
"I haven't seen you in a while, how have-how have you been, Aurora?"
Aurora sat across from her and stared at her shaking fingers. Her leg bounced up and down for a few seconds before she finally looked up, she responded to the loud ring of a bell. Eugene Bones and Dean Kingston strolled through the door, laughing.
Aurora never answered Eliana's question.
"Hey guys!" Dean exclaimed as the two girls stood up
They all embraced and smiled at their reconciliation. They ordered drinks and told jokes, talked about how their lives had been. Summer was full of travel. Well, for Eugene, Dean, and Eliana. Aurora sat in her foster home while her siblings ran around and pulled her hair.
"How was France, Dean?"
"How was China, Eugene?"
"How was Brazil, Eliana?"
"How was your summer, Aurora?" The pale girl looked up and gave a fake smile, she nodded and rose her hand in a thumbs up. The three looked at each other with worry.
"What did you do?" Dean leaned over the table
She sighed and changed her mood.
"It was pretty good. I got a lot done and even changed my hair, do you like it?"
"Yeah, I love it!" Eliana ran her finger and curled the end of it with a smile. The boys nodded with glee.
That wasn't what really happened that summer.
-
ELIANA WAVED AS she turned the corner to her car. The only people left were Aurora and Dean. They stood silently as she drove away, giving one last wave.
"I know your lieing. Not about your hair but about what you did, about this summer." Dean confessed, looking up into the dark sky. Aurora looked up at him in anger, gritting her teeth.
"What's that supposed to mean, Dean?" She snapped
"I mean, you should tell me what actually you did. I'm worried. Why would you lie about your summer?"
"Just believe me, you don't want to know." Aurora turned on her heel and walked to her bike
"But-"
"Stop, I'll see you soon. Very soon." She took off, leaving Dean in the dust.
-
AURORA RUSHED AROUND her room grabbing clothes.
"Dinners ready, bunny!" Aurora's little brother called
"I'll-I'll be there soon!" She answered while opening her window. It jolted with a slight squeal. Before she jumped she walked over to her desk, she opened it, and wrapped her shaking fingers around her journal. Inside was a chart of names. The left side were the names of people that had gone missing around the state of Illinois. The right side were people found dead. Bunny smiled as she stuffed the book in her pocket.
Her smile grew as her feet landed in her backyard. Twigs and branches cut her legs and arms as she ran through the woods to her car. The car her parents didn't know about, the car that was full of blood, the car that protected her from breaking into a spree, even though she already had.
