Having animals in circuses is cruel. Most people see circuses as family fun but the truth is MUCH darker.
First of all, there are the cruel training techniques. They claim that they use positive reinforcement and maybe this is what the public sees during shows, but government searches show something different. It is common for them to use bullhooks, which are hard to explain just look up pictures, to hit elephants in sensitive spots. They train elephants by striking them into submission. Other things that they use are electric prods, tight collars and whips.
Also, they are forced to travel for months and are isolated. Circus animals travel for about 11 months a year, this is most commonly while they are chained up in small cages that lack climate control while being forced to stand in their own waste. But once they reach the distination they are taken better care of right? Wrong. After traveling for days in filthy cages they are then stored in basements are parking lots, with dirty water and almost no food.
My last point, this is also a danger to the public. There are many reports of animals snapping from years of abuse and run off. They are damages cars hurt humans and other animals.
