It's Saturday, and I'm still sitting on a couch like I've been for days. The door bell ring and I get up slowly to see who it is. Joseph stands on my front porch with flowers, looking through the window. I open the door.
"I brought these for you, I thought you might want some cheering up." he says, handing the pink and white bouquet of tulips to me.
"Wow! Thanks!" I say, giving him a hug. He smiles. Joseph gets closer to me, and wraps his warm arms around me. At least I wish he did.
I get up to see who's at the door. The mailman stands on my front porch with a package. I open the door, sign, and take the box inside.
Opening it I see a leaf. One small leaf and a note in a big box. After reading the note, I run up to my room and shove some pillows and blankets in a bag. I put on a sweatshirt and head downstairs. Putting food in my bag, I yell to my mom I'll be back tomorrow. She doesn't respond. I grab my phone and head out.
I cross the street and walk through the park. When I get to the tree, Quinn hops down.
"Glad you could make it!" she says. Grabbing my bag, she tosses it up to Joseph who is up in the tree. Together they help pull me up to the platform of thick branches. My arm starts to hurt.
They have pillows all around the edge of the platform and blankets covering the branches. I spread my blankets and pillows out and sit down.
"This is great!" I say. Quinn reaches into her bag and pulls out a laptop. Putting in a movie, she sets it on a pillow and we sit back.
We talk long after the movie is over. The stars shine brightly above us through the branches of the tree. Sometime around 3am we drift off.
The next morning I wake up still in the tree. Quinn is at the top of the tree, looking across the street.
"Who lived there?" she asks, pointing to a small blue house on the corner that looks really old.
"I don't know, some old lady." I say. She climbs back down and sits next to me.
"We should go over there sometime." she says.
"Umm I don't know..." Joseph says, barely awake.
"Halloween. Cmon guys! We can dress up and trick-or-treat there! We can even peak in the back yard!" she says with a weird excitement.
"Maybe. We'll see." I say. We all lay back down for a little while longer. Eventually we disperse and all go home.
