I'm an FBI agent. I, and the other agents in my division are assigned to a person who's laptop we monitor. The government claims its to better understand our population and keep an eye on criminals.

His name is Ethan. He's 23, he doesn't go to university, he lives in the garage of his mums house and starts each day with a can of Monster and a good hour on minecraft.

And each day I monitor him. And in turn, I fall more in love with him.

I can remember the exact day it happened. It'd been a week with Ethan and I turned on my monitor ready to access his webcam, his history and a live feed of everything he was doing online. He seemed like a cool guy. Every morning he went onto minecraft and I watched him build astounding buildings. As a past minecraft user I really respected him, as he was a redstone god.

As the day went on, he finally got ready for bed. I watched as he climbed into bed and flicked on his phone, laptop at his side. Then as i glanced over at his phone on my monitor my heart leapt.

A twitter post. So simple, yet so glorious. My eyes widened and my heart sank. Ha ha. Very funny.

Then Ethan's eyes turned to the webcam and softened

Then Ethan's eyes turned to the webcam and softened. I jumped back instantly. It's like he can see me, I thought.

"Mr FBI man?" he whispered.

Instinctively I stuttered, "yes?" I mentally slapped myself. He can't fucking hear you, dipshit.

"If you're really there, please give me a sign." His voice seemed to ache, like he was pained.

The voice of my supervisor thundered in my ears.

"DO NOT INTERACT! ONE SMALL MISTAKE CAN GIVE AWAY OUR ENTIRE OPERATION."

I sighed. "Im sorry Ethan." I muttered to myself, and I switched my monitor off.
