(we are going to pretend that we are all in 9th grade and this is more realistic now)
"god, what are we going to do now?! WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?!" johnny screamed into the air, making both skye and myself flinch.
"johnny...it's going to be okay..." skye spoke with tearful eyes. she was petrified, johnny was losing his god damn mind and I was unbelievably scared. scared I would never see my family again, who despite everything i love more than anything. though in this situation we needed one level headed person and as of right now I suppose that could only be me. "guys, we are scared. all of us, but there is absolutely no chance we will EVER make it to California if we lose it right now, we need to be calm and aware of our surroundings. we don't stand a chance out there if we don't start making a plan, we can all break down later when it's safer...deal?" my voice wavered but my point stood strong. skye wiped her eyes and held in sniffles as Johnny nodded agreeing with my statement. "i love you guys, we are each other's family now...okay?" i smiled softly at my two close friends as they slowly returned the smile and hugged me close.we stayed that way for a while, assuming we weren't going to have many moments like this in the future, and then quickly locked johnnys door and made our way to the kitchen. we all surrounded the island in the middle of his kitchen and I could tell they were waiting for me to speak up, I was no leader but in the current mental state they were both in right now i was the closest person to one. "okay...johnny go pack a bag of your clothes and any belongings you hold near and dear. then get another bag and fill it with snacks and water." I spoke, trying to think of the necessities we would need. "once you are done, we will go to skyes house and then last mine to repeat the same thing. don't take anything perishable either, we won't have a fridge or anything for a while. he nodded and went quick to work whilst skye and I took a look out the window, people were running, screaming but it died down. now only those...things were roaming the streets. not too many of them though luckily, meaning we had to move fast.
"my mom..." skye began but I quickly hushed her. "is in California right now, the safest place to be in all this until the government sorts it out. this isn't the end of the world though it may seem so..this is simply the next big time stamp in history...like uhhhh the holocaust." i stifled a laugh after I spoke so lightheartedly about something so tragic but there was no time to scare ourselves, the universe was doing a pretty good job of that on its own.
"i guess you are right." She smiled back at me.
"okay guys I'm ready, Boston can you carry the bag of food?" johnny suddenly walked back into the living room."sure john. next stop, skye's house."
we all carefully walked back outside, nothing was on the street it seemed so we laid low and stuck to the dirt paths that cut through neighbourhoods. we finally made it to skyes and it hadn't looked to run down but we quickly noticed a 'limper' walking towards us so we scurried into her house. "alright skye, I'll help you pack belongings, johnny can you take any food items you see in the cupboard's cans and no cans!!" I spoke.
we made our way to skyes room where we took her clothes and piled them in. she looked down at a picture of her and her mom and smiled sadly quickly but carefully placing it in her bag that she'd carry for the next few days. I hugged her and then held her hands in mine. "your mom is okay. and we will see her soon." i smiled making her force a smile as tear fell from her eyes, she nodded and hugged me tightly. we took her blankets and pillows because we needed some sort of comfort. the we quickly made our way to the living room where johnny sat with a bag full of foods.
"you okay skye?" he asked scanning her face.
i could see that she was getting ready to cry again so I made a joke.
"she saw a centipede." i say shaking a tad in disgust.
"EW!" johnny laughed.
i smiled lightly and grabbed my friends hands, as we made our way to the final destination before fleeing our homes for who knows how long...
