A repeating click of heels tapping against tile floor echoed down the hall. The desaturated tone of warm gray crawled throughout the small space, illuminated by spotlights that dangled from the ceiling. Bright patches sent the shadows fleeing to the sides of the walls, hissing in fear while a single soul walked through the light with ease. From the lack of color, their white lab coat popped out with a shining image. Their hair-fine brown like sweet hazelnut chocolate-- was pulled back into a tight ponytail that swayed with every step. Her skin was pale and smooth, refined by a slim jawline and full lips of rose. She was tall and slender, yet there seemed to be an unsettling aura around her. It was a silly thought, but given the location and how she was alone, maybe the feelings were justified.

In her grasp was a clipboard scratched with small notes and a few reminders sent to her directly from the officers. They were specifics on what was required for her latest experiment. Looking over them, she chuckled from simplicity. There was a clear lack of trust written in their orders, but if she wished to gain better equipment, she would stick with what was given. It was somewhat insulting, honestly. The shadows seemed to agree. Conditions of this establishment were poor like the rat's nest where delinquents gathered. Or maybe the location was on purpose.

She hummed her troubles away down the dimly lit corridor. It was surprisingly longer than she suspected. Near the end, a few doors lay on both sides. Finally, she had arrived. About time this experiment began. She turned to the door on her right and opened it, peeking inside to see what was in store. The room was bigger than she anticipated, completely set with monitors and a control panel. A table to the left held different vials of various concoctions. Her lip twitched with the faintest smile. This was her workstation in all its glory. The sketch factor was really high for this one. “They weren't lying about protocol,” she murmured. She closed the door softly and looked back to face the one on her left. Her finger tapped the clipboard in thought. According to her notes, everything she'd need to use for this experiment was kept in there. It was to be used as a motivation for the soon-to-be-arriving test subjects.

The vague description coaxed her curiosity to see what it was. Hand on the doorknob, she twisted it to the click and pushed it open by a smidge. She was surprised to see the room pitch black. There didn't seem to be anything in here. Pushing further, the door groaned with aching limbs, hitting the wall with a thud. Light from the outside barely lit a fourth of the room. Her lips pursed. Perhaps she arrived early. She made nothing of it and turned back with a shrug. Everyone had a miscalculation now and then. However, these people were far from it. Shoes scuffed the rough stone floor, snagging her attention back into the darkness. Her eyes narrowed with suspicion.

“W-Who's there?”

Oh, it was that kind of motivation. She was expecting a large amount of money. Never did she think that the situation called for a hostage. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. Taking a quick breath, she regained her composure and cleared her throat. “Hello there,” she greeted. There wasn't much after that. Instead, she looked around for a light switch. The lack of brightness was beginning to irritate her. How long had this person been in the dark? She would have arrived sooner had the plan been fully explained. Her hand brushed over a small switch. “Ah, here we go.” Flicking it on, she turned back around and gasped. No, this couldn't be right. Her nails scratched the clipboard and teeth gritted. There before her stood a young boy. He rested in the farthest corner of the room, arms tied behind his back and a blindfold over his eyes. She noticed that he was shaking. Poor thing. Briefly checking her notes, the single name now made sense: Hau.
