The Ram

A chilling noise gores your ears,

And sends a thrill of dread

Crawling over your bare flesh.

The sound of cracking bone.

The deafening thunder of hot blood

Hitting the snow-covered ground.

The heartbreaking cry of your invincibility

Shattering under a naked reality.

I couldn't fathom in the least amount,

The terrible ache of your bruised visage,

Or the burning of your eyes from the unmerciful light,

Or the pointed agony of your life giving breath.

How fearfully lost you must've felt

When you opened your infant eyes

To your pretty conceit, and saw

Not a fantasy. Dark and murky and comfortable,

But a red red world standing as it truly is.

Unbridled. Unforgiving. Cruel.

Gods, how it changed you, my friend.

I watched your eyes turn to coal,

And your heart turn to diamond.

Beautiful. You are so beautiful.

Untouchable. Unreachable. Protected.

I was a mute witness as you ascended to your glory peak.

I was a shadow as you bathed in the blood of your friends and enemies alike.

The silent wraith of your victories.

I almost wish that I mourned your innocence.

I wish I missed the blamelessness in the bow of your lips,

Or the childhood in your succulent cheeks.

But I look at you now,

And I can see your hardness is to be admired.

Your triumph is a command.

And sometimes - I laugh.

I laugh as if the veins of my life are poisoned with madness.

You are such a treat. Such a treasure.

Ripping into souls as you do,

Conquering minds, and drinking their horror

As if it were the elixir of life.

What a delightful joke your brutality is.

I cannot tell lies, and I say to you

That your mountain throne is the greatest monument my hands have built.

And I laugh.

And I laugh.

Like a little child, I laugh.

After all, who could ever love the chimera

That eats the hearts of men,

And spits their wasted remains

Into the godforsaken pit.

The bleak chasm

Of the lost ones.
