Kadya POV
I blinked again. Dex was gone from the benches and I spun left and then right to see him puffing and panting on the field. He saw me looking and did a kissy face, running flamboyantly towards the opposing team. I didn't laugh; I turned back around, staring blankly at the group of jocks, whom all had become suddenly transfixed by me.
I glared as I realised that they had a Shapeshifter amongst them. Not a Witch. And Theo had given him access to my foremost memories. Not that I didn't protect the important ones though.
A tall lanky boy appeared from the spot I had been staring at previously as if he had always been there and yet I hadn't seen him there. He was a spitting image of Theo, but he wore glasses.
I looked between the two of them and didn't let up on my anger. "Thank you for raiding my memories, Theodore and Callum, I appreciate that SO much (!)" my voice was laden with suspicion and accusation. I stepped closer to Callum aggressively and a girl stood up to pull me back from him. Callum's gaze was eerie, his grey eyes a storm of indecipherable emotions. I didn't care, for a second...I thought my sister had come back to me...
I covered up the grief that I had let radiate off of me in waves, and pushed the girl roughly away from me. She went to stand next to Callum and glared at me. I glared right back and she blushed, turning her head into the crook of Callum's neck. 'Sadie, her name is Sadie' I thought to myself.
Callum's gaze didn't waver. "Why are you here, Witch?" his voice was deadpan. Theo stared at me in amazement, but I was not in the mood to be idolised. I sighed through clenched teeth. "Why do you think, Shapeshifter?" I put a hand on my hip.
Technically speaking, Shapeshifters and Witches are from the same gene pool. Which is why I thought Callum was a Witch, because his aura was so similar. But there has been a rift between the species ever since the 13th century when a war broke out between the Angels and Demons and the Shapeshifters had refused to help either side, whilst the Witches were split in half between both sides. There were, of course, human casualties and the Shapeshifters - amongst other Supernaturals - had blamed the Witches for drawing human attention to Supernatural business...by being the closest genetic relatives to the humans.
I looked between Callum and Theo, noting their different dress styles.
Theo wore a red and white wifebeater, a simple black and white chequered shirt, faded black skinny jeans and brown Vans. Callum wore a crewneck with an astronaut walking down a street on fire, baggy blue jeans and black Nike's. Callum had loose brown curls and Theo had slicked back brown waves.
"Humour me" Callum stated.
I smirked. "Alrighty then, Sherlock. I am Kadya Drago, daughter of none other than Serenity Van Hellsing and Secret Agent Slater P. Drago. I have come here to seek asylum from the Wild Fae of the East and the Hunters from Europe. I have already reinforced the wards of this school one-hundredfold - just before I stepped onto the grounds - and have placed a detection spell that warns me of all intruders. I don't know who controls the majority of supernaturals in this academy, but tell them I seek refuge. If not, I will leave. And drop the wards". I lifted my head as the Fae girl hissed, followed by the hiss of one the Vampires. Obviously the Vampires are day walkers. And obviously they know of my grandfather, and his legendary last name Van Hellsing. Or at least I hope they thought so and bought it.
The Werewolf stood up, a pretty girl. The opposite of petite; nice and lean. Skin a beautiful ebony colour and eyes a striking ice blue. She had a shaven head and a feather earring in one ear. She wore camo pants, combat boots, a funny tee shirt with Ken and Barbie holding knives with crazy-cool melting plastic faces off of Cyborg skulls. Underneath the dolls was a hashtag in red: #FoSerial. On her back was a nice West Coast Choppers leather jacket. She greeted me with a surprising hug.
I smiled at her, which she returned earnestly. "I'm Lilith, leader of the sect of Wolves in the academy's secret Supernatural club. Your mother saved my life once, when I used to be a Rogue and introduced me to the Vampire world; the dark side of it. Where I met Henri, my Mate, and I changed him from his old ways." she jerked a thumb at a Vampire behind her. He was playing with a switchblade.
Henri had skin whiter than a ghost, dark circles under his eyes that emphasised the look of danger about him. His eyes were a shade of gold so hypnotising, a tell-tale sign that he must be transitioning into a hybrid Vampire/Werewolf. Hey, I didn't say that my aura-sight was 100% accurate. His brown dreadlocks were pulled away from his face, showing off his stretcher ear piercings. He wore clothes identical to Lilith, other than his shirt: A simple grey shirt. He smiled at me with a toothy grin, and I liked the warning he gave with his eyes. He was warning me not to hurt Lilith. I instantly respected that and nodded back.
"That's Sadie," Lilith nodded towards the Pixie, whom had started playing with a tiny bird. Her blonde pigtails emphasised her childish nature well, and suited her pastel blue babydoll dress. Her true nature was veiled by a glamour (a strong one at that), and it was obviously hard for her to pretend to be human. "She is loyal to Nixagi, for he adopted her and raised her like his own," Lilith took my arm gently and lead me to a small copse of trees a few metres away.
"And the rest are...well, you seem to know the twins...um Troy, see him? With the weird blonde half-buzz cut? Yeah, him," she pointed at the group, they carried on watching the game...albeit not as avidly as before, but they did their best to ignore us. I saw the human boy in particular she was pointing at and I gave a quizzical look. He was quietly reading a book and even I could sense his nervousness from here.
"He's a mountain! Why is he not on the Olympic team!?" I queried with astonishment in my tone, and Lilith shook her head. "He's a gentle soul, and because he's a Pyrokinetic...he can't always contain his emotions and yeah everything is pretty dangerous for him. Only his mother knows about it in his family; and because she works at a bloodbank run by Nixagi she knew to send him here and etcetera" she said, telling me about the others. Troy wore Billabong shorts and a loose Nitro Circus tee. He wore green jandals (thongs, chundals or flip-flops etc.). His partially shaven head occasionally scanned the field.
I nodded, running a hand through my hair.
"Um, Cade. He's a bit shady, he's got the hots for Viper. Cade is a freak with getting stuff, you name it, he'll get it. He's the Vampire talking to a cheerleader," and I grimaced as I realised that Cade was the my tour guide from before. He dressed like a business man though, brown hair slicked back, a black Hallensteins tux; somehow looking casual. "He is Henri's big brother" and that was the end of that. I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't like him, judging by the scowl Lilith gave when she mentioned Cade.
"Viper, he's the goalie on Team Red's side?" she pointed. I saw him standing and he was doing some weird dance with...Dex. Dex seemed to sense me watching again and he turned to look at me. The wind picked up, blowing my hair gently in the air. He grinned at me, starting to do a mix of a Dougie and Twerk. I raised a brow. And then I laughed when Viper pushed Dex over so the ball would hit him square in the ribs.
Lilith clicked her fingers in front of my face, and I realised that I had been watching Dex for the past 5 minutes.
"You were listening, right?"
"Uh...I missed that part about Viper" I said, looking at Lilith. She was smiling with her eyes and she looked between me and Dex.
"You would be good for him," she whispered, and I pretended not to hear. I focused my eyes on Viper. He seemed so happy-go-lucky, stopping to wave at Lilith and I, going to kick the ball across the ground. Whilst Dex just rolled around on the floor like a spastic worm.
"Viper, he's a rich kid. I mean, we all are pretty well off ourselves, but Viper has MONEY. His family are the reason this school is still standing. And being were-snakes, they started a club to find Supernaturals like us. Viper is the leader of the group and I'm his second-in-charge".
I looked at Viper and he nodded at Lilith, motioning with his hands. "We would like to welcome you to Haven, Kadya".
Lilith held out her hand. She had a little needle on her palm.
"Initiation?" I tilted my head, and she nodded. I thought it over. Lilith's calculated gaze bore into my eyes and I felt the magic under the school gently nudge me forward.
I smiled.
