Bright whizzing lights rushed into oblivion. Sharp mechanical laughter pealed throughout the buzzing night life of Eden. I breathed in the chill air of winter, coloring the darkness with opaque white clouds. Hughes of electric blue and fluorescent lime green flashed across the sky illuminating like the auroras. I looked down to see their long ebony hair contrast with pale, translucent, silver skin. The allure of the night clubs attracted them like moths to flame. Slight vibrations shook the balcony. My head ached from the music pouring into the black and blue void of night.
The brittle air scratched at my bare arms making me shiver. Images of bloody, beaten humans flashed across my mind. Shackled limbs to one another, as they stumbled and crawl to their death. I straighten up as old memories come out to play with my emotions. Freezing droplets of water fell on to my numb hands, tears showing years of pain hidden in my heart. Sometimes I'm unable to stop the flash backs.
I close my eyes and counted to ten hoping to clear my mind.
One....
Blood curtailing screams filled the air...
Two...
Fear and panic stampeded the streets...
Three...
My mom grabbed my hand and yanked me across the lawn...
Four...
My father boarded the doors...
Five...
We ran to the basement frantically blockading it...
Six...
We fall silent waiting until bombs erupted all around us....
Seven...
My parents told us that no matter what they loved us...
Eight....
Our parents shoved me and my sister into a small panic room...
Nine...
My sister ran after them...
Ten...
Three shots go off and I am alone.
I turned abruptly leaving the fridged sharp night, wallowing in horrific memories, into the confines of my home. I closed the blinds tight, locked the doors and headed for their room. My hand shook opening the door knob only to be met with the heart broken smile of my parents' last photo. I felt the memory of a warm summer breeze tickle my skin, carrying me back to a pasture that rippled like the ocean, mixed with the beautiful splashes of magenta, emerald, plum, and ruby, flowers melding into the molten gold and orange sunset. I whipped my head around, hearing the laughter of my sister and parents. Their they were sitting on a worn blanket blowing on dandelions. My knees gave out falling to the ground as tears rose in my eyes, soaking in the painfully happy memory.
Eve, sat up, came over and grabbed my hands. I collapsed onto the blanket afraid to blink, I thought they'd disappear like all the other times. They look at me smiling; my mother runs her fingers through my hair while my dad holds my hand.
"Don't cry..." As she wiped away tears. "We're right here" she pointed to my chest "we'll always be here...." They let go, I knew what was next. I'm yanked back to reality, the room where memories of the past live. I brushed the wetness of my cheeks away. The door to my past was locked and wouldn't be opened for a while. I headed to my bedroom to get ready for payment towards my existence; as the last human on earth.
