Her family was awake. She could hear them. She was worried. How could she keep this secret? Her mind was going a hundred miles an hour. Surely her family would figure it out sooner rather than later. She wished that she had killed her. But every time she thought about it, she looked into those big brown eyes. She couldn't bring herself to do it.
She felt weak. She felt like she wasn't supposed to feel the way that she did and she didn't like it. She shook the thoughts from her head, and went to join the family who was waiting outside.
She glanced back at the window. From here, you couldn't tell that the enemy was sleeping in there.
"Good sleep?" Her mother asked.
She fake yawned and nodded her head. She imagined what her mother would do if she found out. Each time that a member of her family talked, she imagined the different ways that the sweet, innocent girl would be ripped apart. How each family member would kill her differently, but none of them mercifully. She bit her lip as she tried not to think of it.
"I heard she's still out here," Was the first thing Serena heard as she came out of her daze.
"I can almost smell her, I bet she's close."
Serena froze.
Though stressed out, the family hunt went well. They ended up with a deer and 2 squirrels, and (thankfully) no angels. After their dinner, it was almost time for the sun to rise. So Serena excused herself and went to her room, locking the door behind her.
The angel girl was awake. You know, it's really confusing calling her that. Serena decided in that moment that she would change that.
"Where were yo-" the girl started, but Serena cut her off.
"What's your name?" Serena asked.
Catherine felt taken aback, but realized that they had yet to share that information with each other. "Catherine" She said.
Serena smiled, she liked that name. "I'm Serena."
"I know."
"How?" Serena raised a curious eyebrow.
"I heard someone say your name," She shrugged. Then, she squinted her eyes. She noticed something at the corner of Serena's mouth. It was bright red. "I-Is that blood?
Serena licked the corner of her mouth and tasted the sticky, sweet, delicacy that was deer blood. She nodded. Suddenly, Catherine let out a scream.
"MURDERER."
Serena ran as quick as she could and clamped her hand over Catherine's mouth, who was furiously trying to scream at the top of her lungs. Serena could feel the blood rushing in her ears, her heart rising in her throat. She begged silently that no one heard the scream, but it was unlikely that her prayers were answered. Soon, she heard the steady footsteps of someone in the hall. Her breathing hitched in her throat as they knocked on the door.
"I'm trying to sleep," Serena said as calmly as she could. Her trembling hand still covering Catherine's mouth, whose eyes were teary and filled with fear. She was silent now.
"Don't make me knock again, Serena." Her mother's voice sent a shiver up her spine. She knew. She had to have known. Serena looked at Catherine, who looked back with a hopeless look on her face.
Serena knew that she couldn't let anything happen to this girl. She had taken it upon herself to look after her. But she also knew her mother's strength and if need be, her mother would break the door. Serena looked around the room for something, anything to defend Catherine with. Then, she got a better idea when she saw the large paperweight sitting on the desk in the corner. Swiftly she grabbed it, and threw it into the window. The glass shattered, and before Catherine could scream again, she felt a hand on her back shove her through the window. She fell, landing hard on her broken wing. She gasped, all of the air escaping her body, leaving her a broken, gasping mess on the ground. Serena landed swiftly on her feet, helping Catherine to hers before taking off into the woods.
