I walked to Bobby's house. Seemed like their car just pulled in. I walked to them as they got out.
"Hey Mike, how was your night with the boys?" Bobby asked.
"It was literally kick ass if you must know."
He laughed.
"You had a good time didn't you?"
"Yes sir."
We were walking inside the house. On the couch was Mary Ann with her black boyfriend making out.
"What the hell!" Bobby yelled.
I ran to him.
"Go, run, save yourself!"
He ran away as fast as he could.
"Why did you do that for Michael!? I could've got my gun and shot that n*****!"
"No you won't shoot him! I don't want an innocent young black man killed out of racism."
Bobby walked to Mary Ann.
"What do you gotta say for yourself young lady?"
"I'm sorry Daddy."
She was in tears.
"Don't be sorry," I said.
"What're trying to do Michael, you defending that n*****!?"
"Yes sir, I am. I heard he was a good kid and Mary Ann is in love with him."
Mary Ann smiled.
"Yes Daddy, I'm in love with a black boy. You're gonna make me choose between him and a home!"
"...You bet your ass I am!"
"You can't do that sir, she's your daughter! You're just gonna kick her out for standing up for herself just like my father did to me! He's a lot worse than you!"
He slowly turned to me.
"That's why you're here?"
"Yes sir."
"Why?"
"I refuse to go to military school, I stood up to his sexist, tough love antics."
"You're fired! And Mary Ann, you either break up with that disgusting black tar of a kid or get out of my house!"
"I'm gone! Come on Michael, let's pack our stuff!"
Mary Ann took my hand and walked to her bedroom.
We were packed and ready to go. I walked in the kitchen where Bobby and his wife were drinking coffee.
"You know people like you give America a bad name."
"Your remarks give Londonland a bad name, you know boy?"
"You're the one who triggers my remarks," I whispered.
Their son Billy Joe walked to me.
"Bye Michael."
"Bye buddy."
I ruffled his hair a bit. He started to whisper.
"I got a crush on this black girl at school-"
"Shh, you might wanna keep your mouth shut about it around your Mummy and Daddy."
He smiled, I walked out.
"Where are we going?" Mary Ann asked.
"I'm taking you to the nearest shelter."
"What, I wanna go with you wherever you're going next!"
"Too dangerous for a young girl. I'm taking you to a shelter and that's that."
We found the shelter after about five minutes of walking.
"Here."
"Thanks Michael. Thank you so much for doing what you did back there."
I gently grabbed both her arms.
"Respect is to be earned, not given. Run that back to me."
"Respect is to be earned, not given."
"Good, now go in there."
She kissed me on the cheek and walked in.
Where to next?
