A loud thud startled me awake. Mrs. Jackson had just dropped a textbook on my desk.

"I'd advise you, Mr. Smith, to stop staying up late playing video games. That way you can avoid sleeping in my class, and I don't have to waste my time lecturing you."  Mrs. Jackson berated.

"I wasn't sleeping, I was just resting my eyes"

"This is the 4th time you've rested your eyes this week." She said, stirring up a few laughs.

"I cannot allow this type of behavior to continue in my class. You'll be staying after school for detention until you learn not only to refrain from sleeping in my class, but to be punctual as well."

"But I have something important to handle after school today."

"That is not my problem. You will be there or there will be severe consequences. Am I clear Mr. Smith?!"

I grunted out a sound of agreement and she turned around to continue teaching the class. I slumped down in my chair a little feeling my cheeks warm from embarrassment. After what felt like forever the bell rang, signaling the end of the day, and I walked down to room five for detention.

"I see you're here again Darius. What did you do this time?" Mr. Johnson chuckled.

"Sleeping in Mrs. Jackson's class again," I groaned.

"You don't ever learn do ya boy? Well, you know what to do," he sighed. Then, as usual, he propped his feet up on his desk and began his detention long nap.

I dragged my feet all the way to the desk by the window and plopped down with a heavy sigh. Out the window the clouds began to darken, looking as though they might start to pour out droplets of sadness instead of rain. As the dreary clouds grew nearer the laughter of two people caught my attention. Outside in the parking lot, leaning against a red Dodge Ram pickup truck, there was a couple seemingly gazing into each other's souls. And after sharing a long kiss, the guy hopped in the red pickup, revved the engine and sped off. The girl then started walking towards the school entrance, her eyebrows scrunching together more and more with every step. As I turned from the window it dawned on me that the girl was none other than little miss princess, Rebecca Gonzalez. She's considered the prettiest girl in school and every guy has either been rejected by her or is in love with her... well everyone except me I guess. Before laying my head down the clouds gave way, and a shriek arose from the pitter-patter outside making me chuckle. But before I could let sleep take me the door creaked open, and there stood Rebecca. Soaking wet, water dripping onto the floor, with a very annoyed expression on her face.

"What are you looking at?"

"I don't know, I was trying to figure that out," I laughed, and she managed to look even more annoyed than before.

"Whatever," Rebeca stated as she stomped to the desk in the front of the room farthest away from me.

"So what did little miss perfect do to end up here with little old me?"I chuckled when she whipped around giving me a sharp glare.

"None of your business" Rebecca said with an annoyed tone before turning back around to stare at the clock.

With a sigh, I sunk back into my chair listening to the noise of the clock ticking away. After a few more minutes of the silence thickening, I got up and swung my bag onto my shoulder and made my way across the room.

"Where are you going?" Rebecca demanded. Ignoring her as I kept walking towards the door. Until I turned back and gave her a smirk before exiting the room. Walking down the hallways capturing the shadows of the trees reflecting off the windows onto the hallway floors. The hollow building with the sounds of light snoring for room 5 and hurried footsteps getting closer and closer. Hiding behind the corner waiting for the footsteps of someone following behind. Closer...closer.. closer they come. I jump out bellowing before a sharp piercing scream echoes across the school.
