If one were to delve deep into the history of The Chamber of Unknown Artifacts, Mirum would be one of the most popularly sought after cursed weapons in our world. Longer than a dagger, and yet smaller than a typical sword, Mirum is known for its swift and balance in the hands of both heroes and thieves. Mirum is bound to its owner through rituals that include death and the blood of the one who wishes to own it. The elegant swirled knob on the hilt, which may be twisted off once one reads the ancient lettering along the swirl, is the cap for where the desiring owner deposits their blood. While the complete working and history of the sword is unknown due to the sword being considered a forbidden weapon under current regulations, it is said that the soul of the owner binds itself to the weapon, which following the deposit of blood, will create a dim green glow within the ancient letters on the hilt. More lettering reveals itself along the blade which when read as the blade is soaked in a mixture of a magical creatures blood and the owners blood, will be able to be summoned to and from the owner by repeating the text along the blade. To further the cursed nature of the weapon, the magical creatures blood also binds the creatures soul to the weapon and grants the owner of the ability to use a desired trait of the creature by conjuring the memory of the creature using the trait and using advanced spells to drag the memory from your mind into the sword. The completion of doing this does not erase the memory from the owner, but rather imbues each owners memory into the sword. The memories of each owner may be requested by the current owner to reveal themselves once they have placed their own memories into the sword.
While it is impossible to currently verify the abilities and magical nature of Mirum, dozens of diaries and interviews which had been written down provide eye witness account of these actions occurring or these stories being said within the period Mirum was an "active artifact". Lady Oliva Crowe is known for her sacrificing her soul to use its summoning feature to summon it to a chamber which she kept secret before dying in a battle with cursed dragons in the Battle of Lanbrough Castle in 1241 ACE. The chamber was located only in 2016 ACE by archaeologists and excavators who had been investigating a location at Lanbrough Castle for an expansion of their Astronomical Department when a cavern was revealed with Crowe's diaries, writings, and Mirum located at the center of the room. When found, all lettering and glowing of the sword was not present, bringing academics of the sword to infer that the weapon becomes inert and available to a new owner if the past owner has died. Crowe was a professor of Curses and Cursed Objects at Lanbrough Castle and had studied the sword in fear that Prince Raphael Westcraft would misuse the gift which his father had given him while his father (the King) was deathly ill. Westcraft broke several magic laws, including the Magical Creature Protection Act first created by his father, to take full control of the sword's abilities. Westcraft had been rumored to speak to himself and to the sword, sometimes referencing or directly stating names Crowe believed to be the names of previous owners of the sword. Neither Crowe or any others at the time could verify these claims, however, once Raphael became King and executed the actions necessary to activate the sword, immediately turned to dark magical methods and lifted laws against dark magic. He even created an institute for witches and wizards to teach them how to use dark magic as apart of the Westcraft's personal legion known as the Knights of Night and Shadow Stalkers and simply Westcraft's Army. Crowe and Lanbrough castle fiercely denied these actions and would not permit any of the Shadow Stalkers on premises. These actions were the alleged spark which ignited King Westcraft to use his legion of Dark Wizards against the Castle. Crowe and other faculty and staff used various charms, curses, and spells to slow the attack and protect the students. The King revealed the sword to summon dragons from their volcanic layers to burn the castle to the ground. Moments too late, Crowe used a disarming charm from great distance and also stun the King long enough to force herself into the sword and make herself the owner of the sword. While also defeating many Dark Wizards, she also managed to kill several dragons using both magic and the sword. While the King was still incapacitated, Crowe used the blood from her wounds and from dragons she had killed in battle to complete her control of the sword. Feeling herself weaken on the battle field inching closer to death, she spoke the ancient words along the blade and it flew away like a thunderous cloud. Many of the students and faculty had retreated to the castle walls and towers and account that in her last moments, Crowe remained fighting with her wand until she was struck several times by flashes of green and red bolts from Dark Wizards.
The Castle stands to this day with a statue of Crowe with Mirum in her left hand and her wand in the other. The cavern to which Mirum was found is believed to be where Crowe had placed her diaries and writings in the event The King's wizards entered the castle and searched her office. How she herself found the location of the cavern, as well as other information of Crowe, may be found in the Diary of Jacob Burlowe. Burlowe had been the professor of Defensive Magic in Lanbrough Castle.
The Chamber of Unknown Artifacts do not allow the use of magic within the their department, just as the Library as a whole forbids the use of magic within its property. Any use of magic not authorized by The Librarians will result in a permanent curse banning the magic user from the Library grounds.
