Hundreds, perhaps thousands of these Animo Books are spread through the world. The Library holds several which have been banned due to dangerous content. The Animo Book is used to transfer a mind permanently into the book. This had been done with several figures of royal descent and even academics and common people prior to the strict restriction of the books in 1940 ACE. The mind is no longer living, however, all of the memories of the person can be transferred into the book. The text would appear blank until a drop of blood is placed not a page revealing the person who's mind has been placed inside. Afterward, the reader would be connected to the text and appear comatose until they choose to leave the mind of the other person.

There are several dangers to the Animo Books. First, an individual other than the person who's mind is being taken must use a spell and remain focused strongly on it. If they are distracted in anyway, the spell will backfire, destroying the mind and potentially causing short term memory loss to the spell caster. Another great issue is just how easy the mind can be tampered with once inside the book. Although some steps may be taken to make this less of a threat to the mind encased in the book, the danger of tampered memories to those viewing them can be perilous. Curses have been placed inside memories which trap people inside the book, memories have been distorted to the benefit of other bodies, and several of heinous actions of occurred. For this reason, these books have been heavily restricted. Despite the intense restriction, these books are one of few magical artifacts which are actually considered in the realm of dark magic and are still legal for viewing only. As the memories in these books last indefinitely, The Librarian has permission to view a text along with one other reader at a time. The reasoning for the viewing vary, however, most are for academic purposes. The father of King Raphael Westcraft had his mind encased in an Animo Book moments before his death while his son was away. The book was sent to The Librarian, who afterward became the first librarian to retire from the position. He immediately went on to teach at Lanbrough Castle.
