As I got out of the car I noticed I had a nail sticking out of my tire. "Great..." I sighed. I locked the door and headed toward the coffee shop. "What else could possibly go wrong?" I wondered. Well.. everything. I pushed the pull door and everyone inside the coffee shop just stared, a few people laughed. Just one of those days I guess...
The line was pretty long, but the air conditioning was blasting. It felt nice after moving boxes all day long. The heat today seemed unbearable, we had to stop a few times to drip cold water over us. It doesn't help that we had to carry all of our boxes, TVs, and furniture up three flights of stairs.
I failed to mention I stopped at a local coffee shop because I would have had to order everyone their own special drinks. I can already imagine Violet saying, "Don't forget that I need soy milk not regular milk, no whipped cream, extra caramel, two expresso shots!"
"Excuse me Miss" said the cashier, "are you ready to order?" I was completely zoned out, I seem to get lost in my own little world sometimes. I ordered my cold frappuccino and sat at a table to wait. I was checking emails when I could hear the news on the TV blare some very intimidating information. I put my phone down and watched as I saw news anchors discuss and images fly in and out of the screen. They were talking about mad scientists creating a new virus that could eliminate something but I didn't quite catch it. Everyone was bickering about it and they seemed very angry.
There's absolutely no way the government would allow something like that to happen or even be released, right? I started to doubt this whole news segment, they just want to scare the public, but for what..?
"Mila? Your coffee is ready" yelled the barista.
I made my way over to the counter and grabbed my frappuccino and headed for the door when a ragged looking man approached me.
"Can you believe the mumbo jumbo coming out of that news lady's mouth? Do you women really think that you can live without a man? Let alone be allowed to work in a man's environment? See, this is why something like that happened, you get ideas put into your head and you run with it." I stared blankly at the man, not having the energy to disagree with him, so I just smiled and walked towards the door, leaving for my next destination: food.
As I got into the car, I called the pizza shop by our apartment to make sure it was ready by the time I got there to pick it up. The radio was blaring, I always forget to turn it down when I get out. It wasn't the latest hits or old music, it was more news stuff about the crazy scientist. I'm starting to get worried now, is this really something big or just regular fake news.
I pulled up to a red light and the car in front of me kept going as if he didn't see the red light. A car came flying by and T-boned him, he went flying through the dash. I grabbed my phone and called 911 to report an accident. The other car flipped and landed in a ditch nearby. I hope everyone is okay, the crash was loud and it seemed like time just stopped in place. I pulled around the rubbish and the now totaled car, praying the cops would get here soon. I headed toward the pizza place, hoping I won't have to see another accident like that or get into one for that matter.
As I entered the pizza shop, I forgot that it was just me. I had to juggle two large pizzas, breadsticks, pasta, and a two liter of soda. Thankfully, the nice lady at the counter offered to help me out to my car. The two of us safely put the food in the passenger seat. Everyone back at the apartment kept blowing up my phone asking me where the food is. "I'm doing great thanks for asking guys" I sigh as I get in the car.
On the drive home, there were so many accidents. Cars just piled up, wrapped around trees or electricity poles, everywhere. There was glass, bumpers, and other debris all over the road. First responders assessing different cars, people driving slow around the scene just to see what is going on. It was chaotic, I've never seen anything like it.
As I finally make it back to the apartment, I rush to get the food upstairs so the hungry hyenas can eat. I stacked the boxes up and balanced the two liter of soda, making it upstairs without dropping anything. As I walked in, I noticed our AC finally kicked in. All day it has been so dreadfully hot.
"Have you guys seen the news today?" I questioned, I highly doubt it but I figured I'd ask anyways. "Who watches the news? Hell, who even reads up on it? Why would you ask us, go call your parents or grandparents. I'm sure they know." KD jokes. "Anyways, I had to stop at umm the gas station and the people inside were uh arguing about some crazy scientist and something about women hating men. Not sure what it was all about but people were so heated. Oh and! There were so many accidents on the way home, like not just one but eight or nine. Cars were just piled up!" I exclaimed as I rolled my eyes at KD. Everyone was very focused on eating. "Not sure I heard anything, that sounds interesting though" reassured Eli, he usually knows everything there is to know about.
Dakota and Violet didn't eat with us at the table, they engorged in their room instead. I think they are a little excited to finally live together, they've been dating since freshman year of highschool.
As we started to finish eating, Eli turned the TV on in the living room to check out what is happening on the news. "Hey guys, check this out!" Eli shouted. KD angrily stormed into the living room and shut the TV, he gave Eli an aggressive look. "Uh what's all that about?" I asked. "We don't need to be watching that bullshit, it's just going to scare everyone. What's the point??" KD shouted as he stormed out. Eli nervously followed, he looked off.. "That was kind of weird.." Kydd said. I nodded. Why would Eli follow KD outside when he's being such an asshole. I looked at the key rack, KD's keys are gone. Weird...
I finished the dishes and started to help Kydd unpack our room. I was not a fan of sharing a closet but I found these cute plastic dressers to go under our bed to fill up the empty space. That way I have extra room and I guess if he needs a drawer or two I can allow it. Kydd started to hang some posters and other stuff on the walls to make it look less boring in here. I put all of our clothes away and set up the bathroom. "Do you think there's something going on between KD and Eli?" I asked. "No way, have you heard the way KD talks about women.. Nah." Kydd laughed. All of a sudden me and Kydd look at each other and start laughing quietly, we can hear Dakota and Violet. They are giggling awfully loud and it might be escalating.. Kydd turns the TV on and turns the volume up. "Looks like everyone's getting action tonight except us" Kydd laughs as he winks at me. "Woah that means you agree?? KD and Eli?" I giggle. He let out a big laugh and pulled me onto the bed. "Maybe we won't be the only ones." I whisper.
