I'm not a child

It's exactly 10:00pm, your father again decides to leave. The last thing you wanted was for him to go on another one of his "business trips" that only seem to be getting more frequent, since you were feeling quite disconcerted with the aspect of being left alone in this large apartment. The many empty spare rooms only aids in making you feel smaller than you already are.

"Oh come on dad, you can't just stay for this night? We could, I don't know... play a boardgame? Watch a movie?" You ask him, no, beg him, but he just picks up his bags.

"I'm sorry, but I don't have a choice-"

"Work is more important than me? Really?!" You raise your voice, struggling to get through to him as you follow his wide stride towards the car. He pops the boot.

"No! You know that's not it, now no more," your father demands as he puts the rest of the bags in his car. He sighs, closing the boot with a thunk. "Someone is coming over to look after you while I'm gone."

"Wait, wait, wait. You got a goddamn babysitter for me? I'm not a child, dad!" You shout back at him, but you are ignored and he proceeds to get into his car.
Before he fully cuts you off by rolling up the window you plant your hands on the sill and huff, forcing one last interaction before he leaves.

"Alright, at least tell me who the babysitter is?" You sigh, annoyed by your surrender.

"Connor, the Detective I've been working with," he replied, looking over his sunglasses at you.

"Oh, I know the guy..." You murmur, stepping away from the car with a lazy slap to the roof of it.

###

"It seems he's been dead here for a while," Connor informs your father over the phone.

"Connor? Did you- what did I say about putting evidence in your fucking mouth!" Your father replied tersely before exacerbatedly hanging up the phone.

###

"Yeah, I remember distinctive things about him..." you mumble under your breath while taking a few steps away from the car. "Alright dad, have an insanely fun work trip." You can't help but be sarcastic, giving an overzealous jazz hand jiggle with a wide clark smile.

However it appears lost on your dear, old dad as he just nods and drives off down the concrete driveway. Who knows when he will return, if ever.

You stand outside for a short while, taking in the fresh air before deciding to head back inside. Facing the emptiness of the apartment, you resign yourself to the knowledge that not only does your father want to spend more time away from you but that he also doesn't trust you to take care of yourself in his absence.

"I don't want to take care of my child but having them die would be bad. I know, send in an android," you mock mockingly as a mock caricature of your father.

12. Noon. On the dot. The second the clock struck, a number of knocks sounded from the front door in time with the chimes of the grandfather clock in the sitting room. You had to hand it to those eggheads at Cyberlife, they sure know how to make a punctual android.

You take a moment to decide whether to actually open the door for him or not.... You chose to walk to the door and open it where you were greeted by Connor, the android sent by your father.

He stood tall with his hands rested behind his back, "Hi, I'm Connor, I believe your father sent me to look after you," he introduced himself.

"Yeah but I don't need looking after, I'm 22, not a child," you replied quickly with a bitter tongue.

Connor answered with a simple nod. "Yes I am aware," he stated before looking into the house, scanning his head from one side to the other.

You look at him with a what the fuck look on your face. "Are- did- you scanned me, wow. Low blow," you mumbled to yourself with a scoff, walking back into the house leaving the door open for Connor to waltz in.

He went on to say, "Your name is Elliot Gray. You're 22 years old, and have a birthmark b-"

You cut him off, quickly spinning yourself around pointing towards him. "Don't. Just, I don't wanna hear your mouth flaps.. Flap.. Ugh" you snapped, as your words slowed down due to disgust.

Connor showed a slight nod walking into the house, closing the front door behind him, prepared for the day ahead of him.
