Chapter Three: The Stakeout

"Before I met you it was as if everything was black and white and now, now it's colorful,"

Bright and early the next morning, Eliza races excitedly to the Sheriff's Office before she has to get to school. Barging into the off-white space, she finds Sheriff Graham, coffee cup in hand, releasing a scruffy faced man from the cell. After waiting for the man to leave, she practically jumps to tell Graham of her discovery. Telling him in great detail everything she found out about the suspect.

By the end of her ramble, Graham leaned back on a desk with his arms crossed, "You ran in the middle of the night to a bar, on your own?"

Eliza standing across from him nods, "Yes".

"But you were just telling me you were scared your apartment would be broken into again?"

"Uh... yes".

"Why would someone break into your apartment twice? You have to know that's extremely unlikely, your more likely to get mugged running in the middle of the night," he explained.

"Well, uh you make a good point, but it's too late for that. We gotta focus on the present more specifically this," she says holding up a crumpled napkin scribbled with ink, "Taron, shipyard worker, Rabbit Hole frequenter," Eliza recites one hand on her hip the other waving the napkin in the Sheriff's face.

"Okay, you're right," he says snatching the napkin from her fingers their hands brushing for a moment, "Uh, but next time don't-"

"I know," Eliza nods stuffing her hands in her coat pockets, "But we got a name, we have two locations to look for him".

"Ok, I'll go check the shipyard and ask around,"  Graham tells her stuffing the napkin in his pocket and pointing toward her, "You just go to work, I'll keep you updated on what I find".

"Ok,"

"When does school start... 8," he asks glancing at the clock on the wall behind him, "I'll give you a ride," he offers.

"And let my students think I got arrested sitting in the back of a police car, I'll be fine walking, thanks," she waves him off, "Just text me if you find him," she says making her way toward the door. She gives the man a small wave before she goes, him returning it with an unforced genuine smile. Graham's never been one for emotion, but it seems he can't help himself around the woman.
