Chapter forty nine - Epilogue
Once Laufey was dead, some of the witches under his control had come to the BP so that they could, like our heroine, choose to do good things with their magical powers. Four months had passed since the tragic escape of Laufey, and the child's parents kept a constant lookout for any news of abandoned children that fit their daughter's description, coming up with nothing.
Johann had not told them about his latest idea. He wasn't sure it would work, especially as the other witches were much less powerful than Laufey had been. Still, with their help he managed to track down a viable if unorthodox lead, and now they stood in one of the empty gym rooms at the BP, hands linked as they formed a circle.
In a green flash, Johann was gone and the witches that had been at either side of him connected their hands, so as not to break the circle of power they were creating.

Boom. A gunshot rings out, and Johann finds himself in the middle of a shootout. It's pouring rain, and they appear to be at some sort of docks at night. A woman near the docks edge falls, her red coat splaying around her on the ground and Johann guesses from his hiding spot behind an old-fashioned car that she is the one that is wounded.
What surprises him next, is the blue-skinned amphibian creature that stands up, areas of his skin glowing as he haunches his shoulders and heads towards the man that holds up the smoking gun. More cars are arriving now, policemen and ambulances. The more Johann looks around, the more he gets a feel for not only where he is, but when.
1960's he surmises, and gasps as the creature turns back to pick up the wounded woman. There, those marks that are on her neck, she must be the one! Johann steps out from behind his hiding place and shouts her name. "Eliza!"
She is unconscious and does not hear, though the creature turns and looks at him, quizzical.
Johann raises both of his hands in a way that suggests that he is peaceful. The creature blinks down at him, his skin a beautiful ripple of iridescent freckles under this wet moonlight.
"Eliza..." Johann says again, pointing towards her. The creature seems to understand and takes a step closer. "Come with me, please..." he says, extending his arm. At first, the blue man is wary but when Johann shows no sign of aggression, he steps closer, tilting his head in an enquiring way.
"Take my hand," Johann says, and the creature reaches out one clawed hand towards Johann. In a bright green flash, the trio are gone, leaving any witnesses at the scene to stare at each other in utter confusion.

The two new visitors are made comfortable, with agents that can use sign language on hand to make them happy and explain the situation to them, as it is apparent once the woman wakes up that she cannot speak but communicates to her partner by signing to him. After a time, the amphibian man is glad to be allowed entry to the large library tank, swimming around in it with a comfortable abandon.
Johann is explaining to Abe and his partner his findings, yet they are unsure, not daring to hope that Eliza has been found alive and well.
"So you are saying that Laufey sent her backwards in time? And you've found her, and brought her back here...Is time travel even possible?" Abe asks, inquisitive yet cautious.
"I haf been zere myself Herr Abe, it is very possible."
"Wait," She added, her arm coiling around Abes waist for comfort, "so you're saying that Eliza is here, OUR Eliza, only she's been living her life in the past so that she is older? And not only that, but you say that she's also fallen in love with an amphibian man? It all sounds so..." She looked up to Abe, who could only mirror her bewilderment.
Johann nodded, giving them a moment to process the information.

Johann went ahead to the library to prepare Eliza, who was delighted at the prospect of having been stolen at birth rather than dumped unwanted at the waterside, which was what she had been told had happened to her.
Abe opened the library doors and together, they entered the room where their daughter and her unusual partner now sat on a couch by the fireplace.
Straight away, She knew that Johann was correct. This Eliza was indeed her daughter, though she was now almost twice her own mothers age, which seemed crazy to her. The two embraced, crying tears of joy at the prospect of finding each other. Abe enveloped his arms around the two of them, feeling deep down in his own heart also that his daughter was returned to him.
They might have missed out on Eliza's childhood and early life through no fault of their own, but from this day onwards the four of them would go on to become an inseparable clan. More half-amphibian children would be added to their family tree over time, for She and Abe loved each other freely and deeply.
Red and Liz would also go on to have twins of their own, and in time they would all leave the BP, chipping in together to buy their own land on which to build homes that would be safe from prying eyes and nosy neighbours- eighty acres would do that nicely.
So, the next time that you're walking down the street and you see someone with strange looking marks on their neck, don't be alarmed. They are most likely family of Abe Sapien and the Witch, who, if you look at the right records, are believed to still be living a long and happy life in the world to this very day.
