Infidelity

Maya's POV

My parents were fighting again. I could hear them through the wall.

"Shawn!" my mom called after him as he stormed out of their bedroom in a rage.

"What's going on?" I quickly stood up.

This reminded me so much of when my father left. My mom would scream at him, he would yell back. She would cry, and he would slam the door. One day he never came back.

I can sense that's what's going to happen with Shawn. 

"I'm leaving," Shawn said bitterly, proving me right.

"Why? You promised me," I pleaded with him.

"Things changed."

"I'm pregnant," mom told me.

"Are you kidding?" I looked at Shawn in disgust. "You're leaving because you found out you're going to be a father?"

"Don't talk about things you don't know about," he said through gritted teeth, trying not to lash out at me.

"You know what I know? You're just like Kermit, maybe worse," I spat at him.

"Don't ever compare me to a piece of crap like him," Shawn shot back. "I was all in. I wanted this to be my family, but your mother ruined it."

"You're really gonna leave me and my mom when she's carrying your kid?"

"It's not mine," he said under his breath.

"What?" I was taken aback.

"Your mother had an affair. I'm not the father."

I looked over to my mom, waiting for her to tell me it wasn't true. All I got was a guilty glance before she turned away.

"I'm sorry, baby girl," she said hopelessly.

"Shawn, wait!" I grabbed his arm as he was heading out the door. "She didn't mean it."

"Your mother knew exactly what she was doing the moment she decided to sleep with someone else," he glared angrily at her.

"Do you still love me?" I desperately asked him.

"Of course, Maya. I'm not doing this because I love you any less. I still plan on being there for you for the rest of your life."

"But I'm not yours either."

"Maya, it's not the same thing."

"Why? Can't you raise this baby like you raised me and we can stay a family?" I asked in tears.

"The only thing between your mother and me is a broken wedding vow. A relationship full of infidelity? That's not how I pictured my marriage."
