Chapter 40

Emma Windsor P.O.V

I cautiously walked over to a table, thanking a waiter that offered me champagne. Couldn't they tell I was underaged? I mentally scoff, Emma, everyone in this ballroom is wearing masks. Now it would be three twice as hard to find him. One, because I suffered from Amnesia and I barely remember his face, and two, everyone was wearing masks!

Why was I the one that had to distract Vince? I barely know what he looks like!

I watched as people danced, laugh and drink champagne as if this was a royal gathering. Was everyone in here murderers? I wondered where Ryder was right now, he said he was watching over me, but where?

"Excuse me, young lady, but would you like to have this dance?" I'm caught by surprise as a middle-aged man with dark faded hair, holds his palm out. I stare at the man who's faced was not covered with a mask, who was giving me an eery smile. It felt as if I knew him from somewhere, but I couldn't remember him.

I place the champagne down on a nearby table, cringing as he takes my hand in his. The man who was dressed in a navy suit led me to the dance floor, and almost immediately, everyone scattered, leaving us alone. I shrugged it off, the man wrapping one hand around my waist and the other in my hand.

"What is your name?" He asks, and I knew that I couldn't tell him my real name.

"Bianca," I smile shortly, and he smiles.

"What a pretty name, for a pretty girl," He says and I give him a fake smile. "I am the son of Richard Black, Vince Black."

My heart dropped to the bottom of my chest. My feet stopped moving, my feet frozen on the ballroom floor. Immediate hatred boiled in my blood, the man before me attempted to kill Ryder and I. And here he was, one of the dangerous men across America.

"You look as if you've seen a ghost," His voice snaps me back to reality, and fear suddenly washed over me. Although I hated this man more than life itself, I was definitely scared of this man.

I force a smile, regaining my self as I start to dance. I pretend to giggle, ignoring his comment. "You are not wearing a mask," I say, and Vince smiles wickedly. He suddenly brings me close, his intense eyes sinking into mine. He brings his lips to my ear, my skin crawling.

"I know who you are, Emma Windsor," My eyes widen beneath my mask, fear grasping my throat as I twist in his grip. He keeps a strong grip on me, "If you try to run, my dear, I will have your pretty head cut off,"

I blinked the tears, not meeting his eyes as we continued to dance as if nothing happened. I couldn't breathe. This was it, this was finally it. Ryder's plan was unsuccessful, and I was going to die because of it.

We were screwed.
