Yearning

My eyes always wandered towards her. Something about her pulled me in. She was beautiful in her own majestic way. This was our senior year and she sat in front of me in our second period-History. To be honest I think I've liked her since the first time I saw her freshman year.

It was the first day of school, I sat towards the middle in my first class of the day, coincidentally History. The late bell had already rung and the teacher was taking attendance. She had gotten to the tenth student when there was a knock at the door. Mrs. Bell went over to open the door ushering in the late student and that's when I saw her. Her dark brown hair was twisted into a bun on top of her head, she wore black tights with an oversized grey shirt and a black sweater wrapped around her waist. Her eyes were lined in black and a black chocker sat on her neck, everything about her outfit was dark aside from her white Nike air's. After apologizing to the teacher she weaved through the desks heading toward an empty desk. There were four empty seats and she chose the one next to me. When she sat next to me I felt this jolt in my heart; I couldn't help but stare something about her was enticing and warm. Catching my eye she smiled at me her teeth pearly and white.

Now here I was still crushing on her three years later. I was a coward, but only for her. I could never garner the courage to talk to her my tongue twisting in my mouth whenever I was near her. At first I thought this was just who I was, but when my friends pushed me to ask Jessica out from the cheer team because she was 'so in love' with me; I was able to do it without breaking a sweat. The relationship had barely lasted two months as Jessica had said my heart wasn't in it. The truth was my heart was already taken by her.

History class ended and I packed away my books when I felt a gaze on me. Looking up I saw her big brown eyes staring at me as if she could see everything that encompassed me. She smiled at me her teeth still as white as the first time I saw them. I fiddled with my bag pulling it in my lap caught off guard by her attention. 'Would you like to be my partner' she asked. Words escaped me as I let out a 'huh?' She cocked her head to the side and frowned slightly, I didn't like seeing her frown it pulled at my heart. She told me Mr. Deckland had said that we would be doing multiple projects this year and it was best we picked our partners now. I was shocked to say the least, she had chosen me, picked me to be her partner. We knew each other of course but we didn't know each other, we hung out in different crowds some friends intersecting but truly there was always a distance. Snapping back to reality I eagerly shook my head stuttering a yes. Her smile came back brighter than ever.

The rest of the school day I was on cloud nine still reeling at the thought that she had chosen me as a partner. When the lunch bell rang I hoped with all I had that she had lunch A with me. Entering the cafeteria I scanned the lunchroom finding three of my friends sitting at a table. Getting through the lunch line I took my slop and bee lined it to them. My joy did not go unnoticed as my friends elbowed me and pestered me asking why I was in such a good mood. I winked at them telling them none of their business. I looked around the lunchroom trying to find her my eyes dropping with disappointment when she was nowhere to be seen. I began to dig into my hardly recognizable food when my best friend from middle school Tim leaned over and whispered in my ear 'lover girl is here.' I looked up my spoon halfway to my mouth. There she was, her hair in her signature bun and dressed in her signature color black. I didn't get a good look at her outfit this morning but anything she wore looked amazing on her. She had on a black spaghetti strapped dress with a long sleeved black crop top over it as a way to stay within dress code. She had on gold Birkenstocks, which matched the gold hoop earrings that hung in her ears.

She moved through the cafeteria gracefully until she sat at a table with her friends. Naturally they parted for her as she took the center seat. She didn't ask for it she wasn't even walking toward the center, but it was like they all wanted to be able to share in her energy, the one I found oh so enticing. Tim hit my floating hand chuckling at my staring, with his laugh reverberating through the cafeteria she lifted her head to see where the noise was coming from. Her eyes met mine and I felt as if I was drowning, I choked on my non-existent food reaching for my milk to rehydrate my dry throat. Tim's laughter spurted out louder as our other friends joined suit. I looked back at her to see that one of her friends had garnered her attention and she was no longer looking at me. Pathetic.
