The smell of fresh pizza fills the room as Styra walks into the living room with two big plates in her hands, each of them covered with a big round pizza. I can hear my stomach growling and I drool at the thought of having that pizza in my mouth. Styra puts one of the plates down on the table in front of me. 'Mozzarella and pesto for the winner of the day and a veggie one for her loyal helper', she says with a big smile as she sits down on the other side of the table. 'Enjoy!' I take a bite and feel better than ever before. I finally beat level 5, I have a wonderful helper AND I have pizza! What else could I possibly need right now?
Styra neatly cuts her pizza and sticks a piece of it on her fork. She always does this. 'I don't think I've ever seen you eat with your hands before', I think out loud. She looks at me, sighs a little and says:' During the day you use your hands. You open doors, you put on your shoes, you wipe your ass.. You do these things with your hands and frankly, I don't want to touch my food with something that just touched my feet.' I grin. This is exactly why she's my best friend. She's a bit of a weirdo, but she knows it.'So, what's your plan now?', Styra asks as she puts another piece of pizza in her mouth. 'Training of course', I reply. She starts laughing. 'And now for real?' I don't get it... 'What do you mean? I'm not gonna take a break or anything.' She stops chewing and looks at me. She swallows her food and says:'You're not really gonna continue, are you?'
'Of course I am!'
'But you got to level 5..'
'Yeah, but there are 6 levels. I have to beat all of them. I can't just quit now.'
'Yes, you can.'
'Why would I do that?'
'Because it's too dangerous. You know damn well no one ever made it out of level 6 alive. I'm not letting you go in there.'
'I'm not asking for your permission.'
'Arya, you can't do this. It's way too difficult. You're too young and inexperienced.'
'I just beat level 5! I know I can do this!'
'Everyone thought that, until they went inside.'
'I'm not like them! I know I can do this!'
'No, you can't!'
'Why don't you just believe in me!? You always did, so why are you being such a bitch right now!?'
'I'm not being a bitch, I'm being reasonable! You're gonna die!'
'I'm strong enough! And I can always leave if it doesn't work out!'
'Arya, over 100 people died in that cave!'
'I can avenge them!'
'People were torn to shreds or decapitated, some even killed themselves! Your parents got-'
'DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT MY PARENTS! You don't know the slightest thing about them! You don't even know how it feels to have parents! Yours dumped you on the side of the road after they had one look at you!'Silence.
Styra gets up from her seat. She tries to push back her tears, but her emotions are too strong. She shakes her head at me and starts crying as she runs outside. I watch her run away through the window, but I'm not getting up from my seat. I want to put another slice of pizza in my mouth, but I've lost my appetite. I throw the pizza back on my plate, when my anger starts to take over completely. I take my plate and throw it against the wall. I hear it break and fall on the floor. I do the same with Styra's plate and watch the leftovers fly across the room. I feel the adrenaline in my veins and take the chair I was sitting on. With all the strength I've got, I swing it across the room and watch it crash into the cupboard. All of our plates and glasses fall down, and I listen to the deafening sound of everything breaking on the floor. My anger goes away as I look at the mess I've just made. My friend is gone, and my house is a dump. It all starts to sink in.
I'll deal with this in the morning.
