Saoirse Ronan as Cymbeline Draring
——————
Cymbeline's POV:
I was the happiest I could ever be. I thought I knew what happiness was before, but whatever that feeling was fell shallow to what I felt now.
This was true happiness.
I stood in my elegant, midnight blue gown at the entranceway of my house. My roommates, Dominique and Raquelle, were smiling excitedly and hopping around. They were cheering and laughing with bright smiles on their faces.
I laughed with them and tried to calm the quickening of my heart at the thought of tonight.
Tonight, Rafael was taking me out to dinner. To one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. He had asked me to dress up in the most extravagant gown I could find because it was going to be a special night.
After 5 years, it was finally happening. Rafael was going to propose! I could not wait.
We had been dating since we were 16 years old in junior year of high school. He was the person I trusted the most. The person I could not wait to spend the rest of my life with.
A knock came from the door.
"Oh my god! He's here!" Dominique squealed and pushed me behind her. She opened the door and there stood the love of my life. He was dressed in the most stunning red suit I'd ever seen. His hair was slicked back like he was in a catalog and his tie was fit to perfection.
He offered Dominique a polite smile and asked where I was.
Dominique grinned and stepped aside.
Rafael met my eyes and smiled. But it wasn't the smile I expected. I expected him to look me up and down, to whisper breathlessly that I looked gorgeous, and to give me a smile that told me I was the best thing that entered his life. The way he acted on prom night.
But the smile and look he gave me now was polite, grateful, and calm. He did not look me up and down, or even glance slightly at my appearance. The only place he looked was at my eyes.
He did not whisper or lose his breath at the sight of me.
And most of all, he did not smile at me like I was the best thing that entered his life. It was like we weren't anything more than a couple of friends going to dinner.
I cleared my throat and smiled politely back. I waved goodbye to Dominique and Raquelle and let Rafael lead me to his car.
"How was your day?" he asked as we both got situated in his car and he began to drive off.
"Really wonderful actually. Dominique just submitted her songs to a record deal and she should be finding out whether she's signing on or not by tonight," I said. Dominique had been working on her music since high school.
She only gained the confidence to put herself out there recently.
"Dang, congratulations to her. Raquelle up to anything?"
"I think she got promoted so she has her own cubicle now," I smiled at the thought of my friends' success.
They were going to do great things.
Silence followed. Clearing my throat I asked him the same question.
"My day was really rejuvenating. I did some meditations, went out with friends, did a lot of thinking. I've been doing a lot of thinking this whole month actually," he answered, hesitating before the second sentence.
