Rock had no memory of how he ended up in the hospital.

According to his friends and family, it had something to do with a severe car accident, luckily his father and sister were okay, but he didn't get the same luck sadly. Rock was bruised and scarred all over, and his legs had been completely paralized, although doctors claimed there was no permanent damage done to him, it would be a very long time until he regained feeling and mobility in his legs.

So, for the past few weeks he had been chilling in a hospital room. It wasn't too bad, his schooling had been paused so it wouldn't affect his grades, and all he had to do was sleep and take some medication everyday. Even better, hospital food wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be, it was honestly rather good. He had been getting visits, cards, gifts, everything he thought he'd lack in hospital. Disregarding him being half paralized and such, this wasn't that bad of an experience. Plus, he didn't even remember the car accident, si trauma? Nah, he was good.

The only thing that was off was his roommate.

See, Rock had been sharing a room with this guy around his age called Pit Icarus, although the two never spoke, Rock noticed how... high maintenance he was. Nurses and doctors were constantly checking up on him, the poor kid had to take at least three different sorts of medication after every meal, he wasn't allowed out of the room, it was as though he was trapped. Yet, Rock didn't know anything about his condition, despite the different tubes attached to him, the boy looked... perfectly healthy.

What was up with him?

This all changed however when one day, Rock noticed a book Pit was reading, and couldn't help himself from starting a conversation "is that Prey by Kelly Anderwood?"

Pit then turned to face him, and shot him an incredibly bright grin "yeah, my mom got it for me a few weeks back, I'm halfway through and it's already so good!"

"I've read the series up to Hunter, I need to catch up with Stalker though- wait, I wanna know, who do you think the killer is?"

Pit looked up from the book, knitting his brows together in thought "to be honest, that dude Spencer is really suspicious, the way he acts around Joan whenever he brings up the homicides... I think it might be him"

Rock shot Pit a knowing smirk "just wait 'til you reach the end, you won't believe how wrong you are"

The two continued to discuss the book even further, Rock trying to describe the later installments without spoiling anything for him. It was nice being able to talk to him, Rock would have never believed just how much he and Pit and in common "Pit Icarus, right?"

Pit nodded "yeah, and you're Rock Light! I remembered yours because it sounds like an energy drink, or a comic character- or wait! An anime character!"

Rock was powerless to stop the fit of giggles that erupted from him. Pit had this sort of childlike charisma to him, he seemed to be the type that could get anyone to smile regardless of how bad they were previously feeling. He liked it.

"So, why are ya here? I got in a shitty accident and now my legs don't work" he snorted, though the situation wasn't funny, Pit made him feel so much looser and more relaxed.

Pit looked up "oh? I'm gonna die in like, a month or so" he said just as casually, as if he hadn't just dropped a bombshell on his new friend, upon seeing his flabberghasted expression, Pit elaborated "I got somethin', no one really knows what it is, and doctors say they've never seen it before, apparently it looks like some sort of cancer, but no one really knows" he then stretched "they said I probably don't have much time left"

When Rock announced his injury, he was able to act as nonchalant as he did because he had no memory of the event and, at least to him, being paralized wasn't that big if a deal. However, right beside him sat a boy that was supposedly going to die, and he was acting as casual as casual can be?

He didn't want to exaggerate it, Pit probably didn't need that right now. He knew that behind all that somewhat adorable playfulness that the boy was probably scared, I mean, what fifteen year old wanted to be given a death sentence?

Seeing his shocked face turn to certain despair, Pit's eyes lit up, before he grinned "wanna help me with something Rock? It can be our little secret, I'll even take it to the grave" he snickered, causing the other to tilt his head.

"Uh... sure, what is it?"

Pit grinned before reaching below his pillow and bringing out a folded sheet of paper, once unfolded, Rock saw a list titled:

"Ten cool things to do before I kick the bucket"

"Pit, is that-"

"A bucket list? Yeah" he then hugged the sheet "I wanna complete it, but my mom and the stupid doctors won't let me, it's so- urgh!" Pit then shot him a smirk "but you can help me! We gotta be super secretive though, like spies! Either way, I need to complete this before I die, or my soul will... uh... be really unresty and stuff!"

"Unresty?"

"Do you not know anything about spirits!? People with unfinished business always get stuck haunting whatever building they died in, and I am NOT haunting a hospital, come on dude, you gotta help me!"

Rock stared at the other, the conversation was so decieving... with such a friendly, banter-like tone you would assume they were planning a day out or something, but they weren't. Pit was slowly dying. They didn't know each other for long, but Rock couldn't help but feel really dejected that his new friend wasn't going to live long, it left this weird hollow feeling at the bottom of his stomach.

So, knowing the circumstances, who was he to deny?

"Sure, I'm down" he nodded, trying to return the same peppyness that Pit exhibited.

Rock was sure he saw a golden glow surround the boy "great! Oh, we can only do one a week though"

"Why?"

"To be honest? I don't have the energy to do more than that"

They shared a short laugh before continuing there discussion, Rock smiled, starting tomorrow, he was going to help a dying kid fulfill his wishes.

Little did he know, it was going to be him that learned the most from this.
