The figure was draped in a cloak the colour of ashes. The girl briefly peered around, she felt shivers running down her spine. Emberry is 13 and she has hair the colour of flames that lies limply below the chin. She has eyes the colour of the night sky that sparkle non-stop. She is 4 feet and 7 cm tall. On this particular day, she was wearing her favourite white mesh top and her denim pants. As she rounded the corner she peeked around and the figure had dispersed.
When she looked up she saw her parents, Jim and Linda, waving from the window. She lived in a small village called Mangawhai. Mangawhai was surrounded by beaches, forests and walks. Emberry lived in a big old barn and had three horses. She snuck a look behind her one last time. The figure was nowhere to be seen but a small shadow was following her. She opened the door and headed up to her room. She lived in the attic of the barm. It was a beautiful bedroom with light flooding in through the sunroof. She plopped down and picked up a book called Polaroid magic. It was her favourite book. It was about a girl named Lilian whos grandmother suddenly went missing. The day of the funeral Lillian had looked at a photo she had taken of her grandmother as she did she fell through and into a magical world. She started to read the book being pulled in by its magic. The hours just drifted away. "Emberry honey, dinner." her mum Hollard from the bottom of the stairs. This pulled Emberry out of her trance she jumped out of bed and pounded down the stairs. "Darling, can you buy some milk and biscuits? The girls are coming over," Linda asked handing Emeberry $20.
When Emberry started to leave the shivers returned. It was a 5-minute trip down to the dairy. Nothing bad will happen she thought. About halfway there she got the feeling she was being followed. Frightened Emberry ran down a small alleyway. When she emerged from the alleyway she found herself standing in front of a spiralling portal bubbling with magic. She felt drawn to it. Her hand flew towards it and Emberry couldn't control it. Every step she took brought her closer to being fully in it. Closing her eyes she let her body take control and stepped in. When her eyes adjusted to the bright lights and colours flashing around her she could see the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. It had waterfall running into crystal clear pools and flowers covered every section of land. Emeberry could hear a high pitched noise that made her ears cringe. She reached up to cover and ears and screamed. Her ears were pointy. A frightened scream replied. Emberry looked around shocked it was just a dream. She had walked into a post while getting milk and passed out. It was just her imagination playing tricks on her. "This is just a dream, it's not real. Emeberry muttered ensuring her self.
