Steve from the bottom of his heart never thought he would loose Tony's love. His faithful and loyal Tony. He always believed that once things calmed down, they could talk, both would apologize and everything would return to normal. They would be Steve and Tony again. He really wanted to believe that. That's why he sent that old cell phone and his letter. He wanted to make sure Tony knew that no matter what, he still love's him.
But time passed and the phone never rang. Day after day he waits, days became weeks, weeks became months, and months in three long years of silence. Until one day T'challa informed him that they have been pardoned thanks to the modification of the Sokovia treaty. Modifications that have been made by Tony, Professor X, a large group of superheroes, lawyers, and politicians, which also included T'challa.
His heart rejoiced when he hears his husbands name. He knew that one day Tony would realize his mistake and try to fix things. Becuse deep down his husband was a good person and he believed in the iron man.
When he finally read the agreements and was surprised, the avengers were now a worldwide non-governmental agency that would have bases all over the planet, whose headquarters would be in New York. And respond to the UN only when there is a global emergency. There was no chain of command, all the members of the avengers were equal, with the same rights and responsibilities. And the decisions would be taken as a team to vote. There would also be a council made up of the avengers, a group of civilians, politician, and military. The retired avengers would be entitled to a monetary pension and would be reinstated somewhere in the world were he/she and there family are safe. Clint and Scott signed without even looking at the documents, both just wanted to congress with their families. Wanda hesitated before signing but finally she did. Claiming that she misses Vision alot. Sam wanted to see his mother again. Bucky didn't hesitate to sign the agreements, saying that it was time to pay for his crimes.
Finally, after reading the entire document with the help of a lawyer, accept to train like the rest of the team. Everyone came home. He didn't know how much Tony had modified them, since he had never read them but surely this was much better.
When he finally boarded the jet that would take them home he felt as if a weight were lifted from his shoulders. He knew everything will be fine. When they did not see the words with Tony, they would kiss with all the love they had for three years. Then they would make love all night and again and again until they both forgot everything.
But expectataions are not equal to reality. They never are.
Upon arriving at the compound Tony was not even there to recieve it. In their place were the new Avengers, made up of war machine, captain marvel, jessica jones, luke cage, iron frost, miss. Marvel, spiderman, and dr. Strange. They were the main team, the alpha team.
"Where is Tony? Were is my husband" Steve asked look at Rhodey.
"You mean ex-husband" clarified Rhodey
"What?" Questions his team except for Bucky who put an arm on his friends shoulder.
"Tony got a divorce after a year of absence. According to international law, an omega has the right to legally break an alpha/omega bond if the alpha leaves more than one year. You went for three" explained the captain smiling with arrogance.
"You no longer have the rights to dad. Hes now happy" spiderman says or rather Peter Rogers-Stark.
