Ms Venables Assistant

Chapter One

"Good morning (y/n)" Claire the receptionist and my best friend says as I walk into work.
"Good morning Claire, how are you?" I ask.
"I'm alright, kinda sad that it's my best friends last day and that she won't be working here anymore" she says pouting her lip.
"Claire, I'm literally going to be across the road in the other building" I say laughing.
"Yeah but I won't get to see you everyday now that you're going to be working for the she devil." She says.
"We can still have lunch together everyday Claire, plus we can call each other like always" I say trying to make the situation better for her.
"Yeah ok that sounds good, how do you feel about being Ms Venable's assistant? You know she loves the colour purple, it's her thing, I've heard she's really nasty and that's why she can't keep an assistant and why do we have to call her Ms Venable when we're talking to her anyway?" Claire asks.
"I'm a little bit anxious, I guess I'll just have to wait and see how she is, I don't want to judge her before I get to know her. I haven't even met her or seen her, she accepted my application without an interview" I say.
"Well (y/n) I'm sure you will be the best assistant she's ever had, if she doesn't like you then she has a serious problem because you're amazing" Claire says.
"Thank you bestie, I'll see you at lunch" I say and head over to the elevator.
When I get to my desk there's a beautiful bunch of purple tulips with a note attached. I open the note and read it.

"(Y/n), congratulations on your new job. I look forward to meeting you. I've heard such great things about you.
Best wishes.
Wilhelmina Venable x"

'How nice, surely if she's as bad as people make out she wouldn't do something so sweet' I think to myself whilst looking at the flowers.
"Who are the flowers from?" Laura asks snapping me out of my daydream.
"They're from Ms Venable" I say.
"Really? She asks.
"Yeah, look" I say handing over the note.
"Signed with a kiss, oooohhhh" Laura says.
"Shut up, I don't even know her" I say laughing.
"Just be careful (y/n), she has an attitude and can be real bad to her workers" she says.
"Yeah everyone keeps saying that, I'm just gonna give her a chance and see how she is" I say and sit down.
The morning goes by quickly and before I know it it's lunch time.
I meet Claire as promised and we get lunch and sit down.
"Where's Laura?" I ask looking about.
"She said she can't make lunch today" Claire says.
"Oh, ok then, I got flowers this morning" I say.
"From who?" Claire asks.
"Ms Venable" I say taking a bite of my food.
"Shut up" She says.
"What? She sent me a lovely bunch of purple tulips" I say continuing to eat.
"I told you purple was her thing. She's never done that for anyone else, I get all the gossip about her from Anabella the receptionist over there and she says Ms Venable does nothing but give her assistants grief and hardly welcomes them when they arrive" Claire says.
"Maybe she's trying to be nice for a change so she doesn't have to keep getting a new assistant" I say.
"Yeah, maybe" Claire says and we spend the rest of the hour chatting about our weekend plans.
"I'll walk you up, I have to get something from Laura" Claire says as we make our way to the elevator.
When the elevator doors open the workers in the office all shout "SURPRISE" and Claire locks her arm in mine and pulls me forward.
They've decorated the meeting room and set up a table with food, cakes and drinks.
"omg you guys, you didn't have to do this, thank you" I say slightly embarrassed but so grateful.
"It was my idea, I couldn't let you go without everyone saying goodbye" Laura says proudly and comes over to hug me.
"Thank you Laura, I'm gonna miss working with you and Claire" I say pulling Claire into the hug.
"Come on, no more work we have the afternoon off to celebrate" Laura says and we all head into the meeting room.
After an hour of chatting with everyone and them all wishing me good luck Laura shouts for me to do a speech.
"I'm so not good at this" I say my cheeks going red. "It's been a pleasure working with you all, thank you for doing this for me. I'm going to miss working with you all but I'll just be across the road so I'll make sure to visit. Thanks again." I say and they all raise their glasses and say, "to (y/n)."
Just before the party finishes Laura comes over and with a bag filled with gifts and a card.
"We all put money in and got you some gifts" she says handing the bag over.
"Thank you so much, you guys are the best" I say and they all smile.
I go around everyone and thank them for the gifts and say goodbye then head to my desk to get my box of things from my desk.
Laura and Claire get me downstairs and we head out to our cars.
"Girls, I've had the best time working with you, I can't wait for tomorrow for drinks with you, I love you" I say and hug them both.
"We love you too, see you tomorrow (y/n)" Claire says and we get into our cars.
I put some music on and put the window down.
As I go to drive away I notice a woman with a purple suit on, bright red/orange hair in a high pony tail, glasses and a cane about to get into a town car.
'Is that Ms Venable? God she is absolutely gorgeous, surely she can't be as mean as they're making her out to be' I think as I watch her.
I wait until she drives away then make my way out of the car park.
'I can't wait for Monday to meet her and see what she's like' I think as I turn the music up and drive home.
