A/N- Hello people of wattpad. I am an aspiring author and this is the first novel that I've started that I really intend to finish. You have known me previously by a different name on a different account. No one needs to know about that. Anyway, this is part one of The Power of an Eye. Enjoy!
I saw one of The Eyes move to a building near me as I jumped to my next hiding spot. I needed a place to sleep. Somewhere safe. I heard a board creak soon followed by a metallic screech. They know I'm here. Crap. As I see the light from its huge glass eye shine through a broken window I prepare my weapon. The Eye rips a board off a wall and tosses it behind it's back. It continues until it has me cornered. The gigantic metal claws slowly inch toward me as the machine examines my face. It's eye is getting closer to me and the big jaw begins to unhinge revealing the spinning metal teeth. I feel my heart race. Me, the last human, is about to be gone. Humanity ends here.
All of a sudden the machine goes black and drops to the ground, revealing a large cloaked figure. I hold my weapon forward as a means of holding the figure off. "Ramses!" The figure yells, "we've got one. And he looks hurt..." the voice of the figure sounded high, almost like the way my mother's did. Was this a human? A human girl? I looked down at my tattered uniform, the flag on my sleeve was ripped off. I heard footsteps and saw another cloaked figure come onto the dead Eye.
"You could at least introduce yourself, he looks terrified," the other cloaked figure said as he removed his hood to reveal locks of curly light brown hair and a dirt-stained face. "I'm Ramses, That's Leah. We belong to the survivors. Come with us if you'd like to live." Ramses stretches his hand out to me and I swing my weapon at him. I then quickly see my vision go black.

When I woke up I was in some sort of makeshift hospital. I blinked the haze from my eyes and tried to sit up. I felt a hand on my shoulder pushing me back down. "Please, rest. You've been fighting for a long time, you're safe here," a soothing voice said to me.
"Who-" I started before coughing.
"No! Don't talk you'll damage yourself," the voice came into view holding a cup of clean water. I quickly accepted it and drank the whole cup, "thirsty, huh? Rest ETN. I'll explain when you wake up." And with that, my vision went black again.
_______________
"He's a soldier like Ramses and Leah."
"But his backpack had working devices, he must be an engineer like Max."
"Hush, he's waking up."
I open my eyes and blink away the haze. I feel a hand on my back helping me to sit up. There's a soft object placed behind me. Now in my vision is three people, a girl, and two boys.
"How do you feel?" The girl asks. I recognize the voice from when I woke up before.
"Confused," I mutter as I continue to examine the others.
"That's normal. I'm Maddi." She smiles and stands. "Now that your health checks are done, I'm going to turn you over to Levi and Zach so they can run you into the system."
I nod unknowingly as Maddi walks into a different room leaving me with the two men. "ETN346 was the name we found on your uniform," one of them says as he looks me over.
"You were a soldier in the war, you survived alone for 2 years. You're resourceful, sneaky, quick, and strong. You'll be named Ethan and placed as a surveyor," the other states quickly as he types on a computer.
"No, Levi, he will not. He will be taken to Alex as soon as he can walk and Alex will decide," Zach says rather quickly, "he's the strongest one yet. We don't want him to simply be a surveyor."
