Tony's phone rung for what felt like the hundredth time but was actually the third.
Don't get him wrong, he loves Peter, but he's closing a deal right now, Peter could wait for a few more minutes, right?
Though something was nagging Tony, telling him this isn't like the kid. He never calls Tony directly, hell he doesn't even know how he has his number, even though he has Peter's. He knows Happy probably ended up giving it to Peter after the "homecoming incident".
Tony finally shakes the dealer's hand and walks out of the conference room. Tony takes his cell phone out, deciding that since the calls stopped, he'll just ask Happy what was up.
After changing out of his suit, getting into his pajamas, Tony gets a call from Happy.
"Hap? What's up?" Tony asks over the call.
"I have a bunch of missed calls from Peter! I tried calling him back, but he's not answering, do you think something happened?"
"Woah starting to care for the kid now?" Tony chuckles. It isn't like Happy to be the kind. Tony's just teasing, and they both know that, but Happy genuinely sounds worried. After homecoming, he's become more protective, more watchful.
"Tony".
"Fine, fine. Friday, check in on how Peter's doing."
"He's currently losing blood sir, and fast. He's still conscious but can barely move."
Tony jumps up from his seat, "Woah woah, what? Ok, Friday alert Dr. Cho to get the med bay ready, Happy, just do something."
Tony hangs up, calling his Iron Man suit to him. He rushes out a window as it opens to let him through. He pulls up a map, leading to Peter.
He tries to go as fast as he can, but his anxiety makes it seem like time is going slower. Finally, Tony lands in the alley, seeing Peter gasping for breath.
Tony rushes over the kid, slowly kneeling to be beside him. He carefully takes him in his hands, as not to aggravate the wound anymore. Tony's hands are bloody, but he doesn't care.
"M-Mr. Stark? Is that you?"
"Shh, yes it is kid, everything will be alright, ok... just relax. Help is on the way."
How could this happen? If he had just picked up. Even if he had just called back! Why did he decide not to? Instead, relax, while Peter was bleeding out in an alley.
Peter's breathing seems to slow down, as if he's losing breath, "I'm sorry Mr. Stark, I tried my best, but at least they're saved. Though he got away..."
"What're you talking about kid?" Tony didn't want the kid to talk too much, but he had to know.
"There was another big bad guy... though a bit below the Avengers paygrade," Peter chuckles at the last part, remembering when Tony scolded him last time. A fond moment to remember in his last hours.
There are a few seconds of silence, before Peter speaks again, his voice cracking, "M-Mr. Stark? I don't think I'm gonna make it..."
"No, no, kid, everything will be alright, I promise. Please just hold on."
Peter starts tearing up, no longer being able to contain the tears, "I'm sorry- I really am-"
"No Peter," Tony's voice cracks, "No Peter, you don't have to apologize. You beat the bad guy, everyone's safe now right? I'll get him for you, I'll avenge you."
"Thank you, Mr. Stark..." Peter's voice starts to fade, as his eyes drift to sleep.
"Peter? Peter? No, no, no, this can't be happening, Peter!" Tony starts sobbing, trying to shake him awake.
Suddenly, the sounds of sirens approach, as the cars screech to a halt. A few nurses come in, taking Peter away on a stretcher, as all Tony can do is watch through his tears as they take him away.
Tony falls to the ground, and he feels a hand on his shoulder, along with a few tears. Though he doesn't bother to turn around, all he can do is mourn for his son, like the son he never had.
