Olivia Harding
I woke up the next morning to a quiet house, or bunker. Or really whatever you would call this underground safe house.
I started my walk down the long hallway and into the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee. To my surprise, there was no one home. It was around nine in the morning. I scanned the living room for any signs of life. I went to the fridge to get a little bit of milk for my coffee and took off a note from under a magnet that was stuck on the fridge.
'Had to step out for a minute, Harry should be up soon if you have any questions about where things are in the house, love you. -Jake.'
I set the note down on the counter with a sly smile on my face, my brother was super sweet when he wanted to be. I was also unaware that Harry was here, so I am glad that he wrote the note to let me know.
I hurriedly finished my coffee and stalked back to my room before Harry could make his way out of his. I wanted to avoid the awkwardness of seeing him, especially since I hadn't even gotten ready yet. I jumped on my bed and clicked my tongue to the roof of my mouth as Ace trotted back into my room. I pulled my laptop from my side table and opened it up. I scanned through my emails and clicked on the reply from last night. I was relived and a bit excited when I read the email that followed my click. It was an email from the Westchester Board of Education, the same person who had contacted me yesterday, asking if I could come in for an interview later today.
I immediately sent them another email saying I was available whenever they could see me and exited out of my email. I was so stoked that I had gotten an interview. I honestly didn't know when they would be able to see me today, so I went ahead and showered.
After I was finished, Ace followed me to the kitchen, and I scanned the cabinets for anything to eat. I grabbed a hot pocket out of the freezer and stuck it into the microwave. It had been at least an hour since I had checked my emails, so I pulled out my phone and opened my app. Sure enough, I had another email from the Westchester Board of Education. They wanted to know if I was available for an interview at two o'clock at Briarcliff Middle School and I graciously accepted. It was close to noon, so I finished my hot pocket, cleaned my plate and headed back to my room to change and put on my make-up.
Once I was finished with that, I heard the T.V. running in the living room. Sure that it was my brother, I walked down the hall yelling about my interview and asking if he could drive me. To my surprise, I came face to face with Harry.
"Are you this loud, all the time?" he asked sarcastically.
"I am just excited. You don't have to be a jerk," I retorted, brushing off his attitude. "Where is Jake anyway?" I brushed through my hair with my fingers to try and make it look presentable since I hadn't gotten around to finishing it yet.
"He had to go out of town for the day for something work related," he replied with a monotoned voice.
Wow, Harry hadn't changed at all. He was the same hot sour-puss that he was the minute I left three years ago. I wasn't shocked though.
"I was told to take you wherever you need to go in the SUV," he said as he followed me into the kitchen.
It was going to be kind of awkward having Harry drive me around. I really didn't care though, I was excited about my interview, so chaperone Harry would have to do today.
"Okay, well I need to be at Briarcliff Middle School by two o'clock, do you think you can handle that?" I asked sarcastically while leaning my elbows on to the island and staring up at him tilting my head slightly.
His gaze was strong and steady, but effortless. His hair was yet again pushed back by a bandana and he sported a white t-shirt. I couldn't tell if the white t-shirts made his tan and tattoos pop or if it was the black ones. Harry surly was a sight to see.
If his comment hadn't cut off my forbidden thoughts, I was sure I could've sat there and drooled over him all afternoon.
"Sure, whatever."
With that bland sentence, he shrugged me off and walked quietly back to his room and shut the door.
I really hoped that Jake wouldn't be gone often because Harry wasn't that pleasant to be around. With the sexual tension beaming off of me as well, it wasn't going to be easy to be alone with him either. I surely wasn't going to let anything happen between us. I was a stronger woman than I was three years ago, inside and out.
An hour passed as I finished up getting ready by curling the ends of my hair and topping off my mascara. I heard a light knock on the door as I mindlessly voiced "come in."
It slowly creaked open to reveal Harry. "Briarcliff is across town, so we best leave now if you want to get there a few minutes before two," he said softly and closed the door behind.
I took a deep breath and grabbed my binder with my resumes and applications in it along with my purse and headed out. Harry walked cautiously behind me as I exited this abandoned looking house and walked through the high brush to the SUV that awaited. Harry had let Ace follow me outside, so I guess he was tagging along with us, which was fine by me. That dog was growing on me, if it wasn't the fact that he has been following me everywhere for the past day, it would be the fact that he is probably one of the best cuddlers.
I was strutting a red long sleeve dress and some black tom wedges when I realized I would have to journey through a bit more debris and high grass to get to the SUV. It didn't click in my mind how close Harry really was to me when I stepped on a rather big stick the wrong way and almost twisted my ankle. Harry's hand quickly grabbed my arm and steadied me. Once again, his touch sent tingles and goosebumps up my arm to my neck. If it wasn't the brisk air giving me goosebumps, I could always count on Harry.
Embarrassed and a bit uncomfortable, I whispered a 'thanks' and quickly climbed into the passenger seat while Harry opened the back door for Ace and shortly climbed into the driver's seat beside me. The day was already halfway over, but I could tell it was still going to be painfully long and awkward if I had to spend it with Harry. Alone.
Yay another chapter, I know it's been a minute.
