It started like any other day. A calm one. Where the sun was shining and there were only a few stray clouds in the sky. Summer was over and fall was upon everyone in this small, quaint town. It was nearing Halloween again. A few months remained before it would be on their doorstep. This particular place took this holiday very seriously. For small towns you would not think that they'd be so invested in Halloween. But out here? Anything was possible. It was a hub for all things spooky, creepy, and less we forget... paranormal.
However, most of it were just old rumors that the folk have spread around over the years. But for Fay Helmhead, it was more than just some old wives tales or stories spoken from the mouths of the elderly just to scare kids off. Fay took this seriously. She was out to discover the truth for herself. While also bringing along her best friend Y/N, who didn't believe in it. She was a non believer. Even though she's lived here her whole life, she never paid close attention to the eerie whisperings of the old town's origins. She didn't care for it. Although much to her transgressions, Fay found ways to drag y/n along on her ghost expeditions. Checking out crumbling houses, abandoned buildings, and haunted locations. So far she hadn't found anything. Y/N joked all the time that Fay fails to see anything because she is so loud, she scares everything off.(Well, and also because she desperately tries to persuade her that such things just don't exist.)
But Fay? She was out to prove her wrong.

Fay slammed her locker door and turned to Y/N. "Oh come on! Please? It's my favorite place. I swear that this time around, I will find something to prove you wrong. I'll find evidence. Please come with me!" She pleads with y/n hoping she would say yes. Y/N rolled her eyes and picked the books that she needed for her next class. She slammed her green locker shut as well when she was done.
"No. I am not going to be your designated scapegoat for the millionth time to fuel your unhealthy obsession by trying to persuade me into your little cult-like musings." She grumbled. She was annoyed that Fay was so fixated on this crap. However, Fay had a trick up her sleeve.
"Well, if you are so sure that none of this is real and that it isn't scary, why are you afraid to come with me? Scared of what we might uncover?" Fay grinned mischievously. She could be very persuasive when she wanted to be.
Y/N's jaw dropped open and scoffed."Uh... w-what? I'm not scared! Shut up. I just don't see the appeal for all this gross, morbid baloney." Y/N waved a hand in the air while thinking about all of Fay's past antics. She was most certainly one tough egg to crack. Fay used the one thing that y/n couldn't possibly resist. The puppy dog face.
She slapped her hands together. Her eyes glossed over with incoming tears as if on cue. Her bottom lip juts out and starts to quiver.
"Y/N, p-please?" She whined softly and purposefully extended the word please using a baby tone. Y/N took one look at her manipulative friend and sighed heavily. A feeling of guilt formed in the pit of her stomach when she began to feel bad for telling her best friend no. Fay knew how to make you feel sorry for her. 'Oh, she's good.'"Ugh. Fine! I'll go. But don't make me regret tagging along." Y/N gave into her and let out a huff of air. She couldn't believe that her friend guilt tripped her into agreeing. It was preposterous.
