"Raza...", his mother's pleading voice rings in his ears. "Please. I know you are busy, but please, take some time out for this dinner. They are your father's friends! And I've already promised Mrs. Javaid that me and my son would show her around the city this coming week. She's looking forward to meet you. Besides...she has a very beautiful daughter, you might just take a liking to her..."

"Mom! Is this what you have been planning?!" Raza's jaw clenched hearing his mother's words.

"Is this why you have been insisting about this silly matter since the past 3 days? When you very well know that you can go alone. You could have told them I'm busy, which infact, is true! You just want to drag me along, so you can set me up with some random girl?" Raza spat in annoyance.

"No honey...I'm just saying, neither me nor you are getting any younger; look at you, about to be thirty in another year and a half! I just want to see you with a girl who takes care of you; before I die; that is." Mrs. Ahmad tried to make her only son understand her stance.

"Mom. Stop. I have told you countless times. I am not ready for marriage. In fact, I don't think I ever will be!" Raza couldn't help but raise his voice slightly.

His mother gasped dramatically. "Raza! Surely you don't mean that! Are you really going to deprive me of seeing my grand kids?"

"Mom! There will be no grand kids!" He tried to compose himself. "Whatever. This conversation is over. I'm leaving now." Raza turned to grab his keys and exit the house.

"Don't forget! You have to be home by 8! We will be taking them to dinner tonight!" He heard his mother yell after him. He didn't respond, as he knew there was no point in further arguing over it, even if it irked him deeply.

'God...I hate this...so much. So what if they just moved here, and so what if they are new here? Why did Mom have to offer to show them around? But of course, we always have to maintain the facade of a perfect family, seeing as my father is one of the most influential businessmen in this country. Image is everything now a days.'

'Ugghhh...I hate this.'

Raza stares at the screen of his PC in his office, lost in thought. He tried to not think about his mother's words and the annoying night that was going to follow once he got home; by busying himself in the hospital all day. But now that his shift was almost over, his mind was once again clouded by his mother's words.

'Why is this affecting me so much?' All the other times his mom had joked about his marriage, he could tell she was not serious. But this time, she was insisting and pressuring him to go. This time she was actually serious. 'Is it because she thinks this girl could be a potential partner for me?' The thought made shivers run up and down his spine.

It wasn't that he despised marriage or he wanted to be alone his whole life. No, it was far from that. But the idea of a complete stranger being bound to him for eternity, was what gave him goosebumps. That simple idea revolted him. He had seen enough of this disaster growing up, and wished to keep his life as far away from this nonsense as possible.

He wanted to take it slow and with time find a partner who would have the same preferences and morals as him, and eventually marry and settle down with her. He wasn't in any kind of rush.

But his mother just had to play matchmaker.

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his door.

"Come in", he voiced out.

The handle turned and the door cracked open, revealing a dainty woman in her late twenties, with a gorgeous smile etched on her face.
