Author's Note: Sorry it's been a while since I last updated. College has been so hectic, but now I'm on Fall Break! Yay! Since I first updated, I have started a new story: Twelve Dates of Christmas. Anybody that's in the mood for Christmas, go check it out! I made this one slightly longer than the first chapter. I 'm not sure when the next update of this will be. I'll try to do another update within a week. Once again, this isn't edited. Enjoy!

Nicholas was driving along a gravel road and took a right. He drove along the road for about a hour more and finally took a left to enter Slaughter Heights Estate. He arrived at the manor and exited his car. Normally, he would have flown to the meeting, but since it was a confidential meeting, he decided to come normally, so nothing would appear suspicious. He entered the 19th century manor’s iron-wrought gates.
He briefly paused to listen to the deer prancing in the woods two miles away. He could smell the blood pumping though the manor’s servants. He strolled down the asphalt driveway and entered the manor contemplating on what he should do and what he felt like he had to do. He didn’t want to turn his daughter in, but he didn’t see any other way to avoid the matter. With a heavy heart, he headed towards the conference room.
Most of the people in the conference room were vampires, but there was a small amount of rogues of several other supernatural races, that were loyal to their cause. There was a frantic feeling in the air. As the meeting started, people were arguing and trying to figure out who the prophecy was about.
“Do we have any leads?” asked one of the elderly vampires.
“Isn’t she supposed to be a vampire?”
“If she was we would have found her by now,” a voice countered.
“Wait, what if she is a hunter?” another voice inquired, alarmed. Nicholas started running his hands through his hair, as he felt an oncoming headache.
“Quiet!” the king of vampires bellowed with authority, effectively shutting everyone up. He rose up from his chair and started to pace around the dimly lit room. He stopped at the head end of the table and announced, “Jake, my first in command, has been doing some research. He firmly believes that someone in this room knows who our queen is. Our race won’t survive if she isn’t found soon.”
He leaned onto the table and hissed, “Also, if I found out who the traitor is, a hunt will be conducted, and it will be to the death.” A hush fell across the crowd of vampires and rogues for a brief second. Then, all of a sudden, some vampires started to talk all at once. I should have ended the meeting first, the king thought to himself bitterly as he rose to leave.
“What could happen if she isn’t found?” a child inquired fearfully.
“Who could know something?”
The king picked up a gavel and banged it so hard the table beneath it crumbled into a fine dust. “Meeting adjourned.” His eyes flickered black as he started to make his way to the library. He was getting restless. It had been a century since he learned about the prophecy that hinted his mate, his queen, was out there. He glanced up and looked at all of the portraits of his family and came cross the empty space that should have included him and his bride.
He knew in the depths of his soul that she was finally born, but the prophecy hinted she could also belong to another. If he didn’t find her first, she was almost guaranteed to be his enemy. The thought of that happening made him want to go on a rampage, hurting all he came across until he found out some information.
The Council of Elders, a group of well-respected supernatural beings from each race, told him he couldn’t change destiny, that she would be found “in due time”.
“In due time” wasn’t good enough he growled audibly as he clenched fists. He just hoped his plan would get someone to speak. He decided, along with Jake, that they should place a tracking spell but modify it to where it could trace thoughts, so far they found nothing. He hoped that calling the meeting would help them find something. He still had a week to find out some information before the vampires needed to get back and protect their assigned areas. With a sigh, he entered the library.

Nicholas could and couldn’t believe that a hunt would be conducted. He loved his daughter and wanted to protect her. He thought she was too young, but he also wanted to protect his people. A war was brewing, and she could possibly tip the war in their favor.
As much as he didn’t want to tell, he could only protect her if he was alive. Nicholas became slightly alarmed when he felt another presence in his mind. He stood up and left the hundreds of vampires still arguing and started to scent out the king. Unfortunately, he only made it a few steps until he was knocked into by another vampire. It was Jake, and his fangs were bared. Nicholas winced as he was slammed into the wall.
“I think you and I need to go see the king,” Jake hissed.
Nicholas held up his hands in surrender, “I was just on my way-.”
He was slammed into the wall again. “Shut it. Save it for the king.” Jake pulled him from the wall and dragged him to the library. Jake barged in the library and noticed that the king was looking at the book that had the prophecy in it. “Sir, I think our buddy, Nicholas, has some information for you.” He sneered at Nicholas until he threw him in front of the king.
“Jake, what’s the meaning of this?” the king asked rising to his feet, immediately on the defense.
“Our plan worked,” Jake responded as he grabbed Nicholas by the back of his arm. “Speak!” he demanded.
Nicholas warily looked at the king and tensed. “I know who the queen is.” He noted that the king’s eyes took on a more softened quality before he glared.
“Who?” Kyle asked with a look that promised retribution if Nicholas didn’t answer quickly.
Nicholas only paused for a second and felt his eyes starting to get wet, “My daughter."

“He makes a right, then races forward, and then touchdown! Ha-ha! In your face, Alex!” Steven whooped gleefully as he knocked over a bowl of potato chips. “Come on I need a challenge.” He said and immediately was hit by a pillow that Alex had thrown. “Hey, watch it you doughnut!” Steven shouted as he tried to catch the pillow.
“Settle down in there,” our mom said with aggravation coloring her voice. Dexter had been quite the whole evening. He was sitting in between Alex, who was sitting on the floor, and Steven, who was lounging on a lime-green, video gaming chair.
He pushed his glasses further up on his nose and looked at Alex and Steven, “Maybe you two should cool it. Mom sounded pretty serious.”
“Put a lid on it Dexter, or should I say Poindexter,” Steven sneered while I glared at him.
I don’t know what Steven’s problem was. Ever since his third motorcycle accident, he seemed more agitated and got angrier a lot quicker than normal. Usually, he was the one that would try to mediate among my brothers. Now, he was always the one starting it. He even had a few screaming matches with my parents, and almost got thrown out a few times by our mother.
Dexter rose from his chair, “What did you say?” He puffed out his chest, as if challenging him.
“You heard me.” Steven got up, took Dexter’s glasses off his face, and threw the pair at Alex.
“What’s the matter four eyes,” Alex joked as he dove to catch the glasses. Alex failed to catch them, so Dexter scrambled to get the glasses from the floor. When he grabbed the pair, he got up to make a quick exit. Before Dexter made it to the door, Steven stuck out his foot. Jason hurried to Dexter’s side and barely caught him before he crashed down to the floor. Dexter shrugged Jason off and left the room.
“You guys are always on his case. He gets enough of that at school, and he definitely doesn’t need it from two jerks like you,” I said as I hastened to his room. Why did so much testosterone have to be in one household?
