Half twelve. That's what the digital clock displayed above the door in glowing red numbers. Beep. The grey metal doors slid apart to allow a person to go through as it did every five minutes. Precisely every five minutes. A person did go through and as soon as they had cleared the door, it slammed shut behind them. There were five people left in front of me. I didn't have any idea as to how many were behind me. I didn't dare turn around to check.

Beep. Twelve thirty-five. All I could do was look forward and take a single step every five minutes. A shiver crawled up my spine as I fought the urge to just turn and run. I wouldn't get far. I couldn't see them but I could feel their presence in the darkness. They watched us closely.
Beep. Twelve forty. I was scared. I was. But now I barely had the energy to stand. Fear was just a burden at this point. Acceptance was all we had left.
Beep. Twelve forty-five. I heard a distant scream far behind me. Poor soul.
Beep. Twelve fifty. It took slightly longer for this person to walk to the door. Were they scared?
Beep. Twelve fifty-five. I still couldn't see anything beyond the doors. There was no light. Just nothingness.

I was shivering. It was colder here.
No. That's not right.
It was warmer.
I'm afraid again.
Beep. One o'clock. The doors opened.

This is my world.
