"Hello, Michael."
Her voice barely made a sound as she quietly addressed the giant in front of her. He didn't react, but it was expected when talking to Michael. Trying to get through to him was like trying to talk to a wall. Nonetheless, he perked up slightly to the sound of her gentle voice. Michael's shoulders tensed under the tight restraints, but this went unnoticed by the girl who was adamant for his attention.
"I came to thank you, even if your intentions weren't purely for me..." she sighed, continuing, "I'm here, Michael, and you know how to find me."
Her words came out more like a word-vomit rather than her intention to calm him. Again, Michael showed no reaction other than the occasional curling of his fingers and the almost unnoticeable tense of his muscles. Lillian was frustrated to say the least, but she knew that being patient with Michael was the only way to make some sort of connection. Unbeknownst to her, Michael has already formed an attachment despite being a statue ninety-nine percent of the time.
Michael has formed an imaginary bond to the girl, yet he didn't know how or why. Normally his mind replayed the last night he was home. He saw them. His 'dear' family that he oh-so-brutally slaughtered without batting an eye. But Lillian was invading. She's intruded the security of his brain, seemingly drilling into his skull with her sweet voice and her unforgettably blue eyes.
Michael let out a huff, one of the first noises he's made in a long time. The sensation was foreign in his throat, having not spoken or done so much as growled in a number of years. This huff was enough to tip off the guards and startle Lillian. He wanted to reach out for her as she was taken away from him, but all he did was sit in the same position he's been stuck in for hours. He could hear her attempting to negotiate with the guards to let her go back to him, but it never registered through the fog in his mind that was Lillian."He hasn't moved, let me go back to him!" She pleaded in a small yelp.
"I'm sorry, but Michael is dangerous and unpredictable. You can't be around him right now." The other guard, David, said in a stern voice.
"He's fine, I know him." Lillian's fiery gaze targeted the much larger male guard, and she wriggled in his grasp.
The argument escalated, and it only stressed Michael more. He let out another grunt and quickly caught the attention of the two guards accompanying Lillian, as well as her attention. The sound frightened the guards, and the woman who was helping restrain Lillian reached for her taser on instinct. Lillian's eyes trailed to where the other woman's hand lied, and a furious but small "No!" ripped through her throat. Her frail body thrashed in the hands of the large man who held her and she began to plead.
"You can't! He hasn't moved, don't touch him!" She said, but not loud enough to startle Michael, "I order you as his doctor who is responsible for his wellbeing, you keep your hands off of him!" She shook under the angered gaze of the guards yet she remained strong and stern.
The pair looked at each other and then down at Lillian. Both knew what they had to do.
"Miss Loomis, we will not use force, but you can't remain here any longer until he is out of containment. You have our word not to touch him, but in exchange you have to leave. Good day." Said David in a gruff and annoyed voice.
The two guards ushered Lillian out of the room and slammed the door behind her. The walk to the exit of Smith's Grove was silent and agonizing. Lillian dragged her feet behind her as if she had a ball and chain attached to her thin ankles. Once she reached the exit, she gave one last glance to the pair of guards and pushed the heavy doors that lead out of the building. With a heavy heart, Lillian began her short journey home.
