Chapter 1
I bent down two the small, bright yellow flower and reached forward to pluck it from its bush. Only the sounds of birds chirping and small insects could be heard as I brought it to my nose and sighed when I smelled the heavenly scent of nature. I moved the flower out of my face and tucked it behind my ear, making sure to move my hair from falling over the flower. I stood back up and turned around to face the small lake, surrounded by vibrant bush. A small 'quack' got my attention and I turned slightly to see a small animal that looked awfully like a bird, waddling to the edge of the pond with five or six smaller ones following behind it.
When the animal made it to the edge of the pond it continued to walk into the water until it could no longer touch, and then it started paddling out to deeper water. When it reached to about the middle of the lake, it stopped for a moment, seeming to look for something, until it suddenly went under water. Panicking, I moved closer to the pond and watched the water intently, hoping the animal would resurface soon. After about fifteen seconds the animal finally broke the surface of the water, with a small fish in its mouth. I sighed in relief and watched the animal gobble down the fish.
I turned away from the pond and decided to have a little look around. I strolled around the area, stopping every now and then to smell other beautiful flowers, until a small snap brought all peaceful sounds to a stop. I froze mid-step and turned slowly to the area of forest in which the sound came from. As soon as I turned around my eyes were instantly met with dark brown eyes. After closer inspection I realised the eyes belonged to a wolf. I couldn't see the colour of the wolf, only the outline of the shape of the animal. I took one careful step forward as not to scare it off. When it didn't move, I took that as a sign it wasn't going to run and I moved forwards a couple more steps. When I was only an arm's length away, I reached forward as to touch the wolf's head. I was so very close from reaching the wolf -
"Genesis!"
I jolted awake in bed and immediately went to grab my silver knife hidden in the sleeve of my pillowcase. I pulled it out and jumped out of bed, standing defensively with my knife held out in front of me.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm down Gen. It's just me." The intruder held his arms out in front of him, a few metres away from me. I stopped for a second and actually looked at my attacker. Brown hair, brown eyes, freckles across his nose and a small scar by his eye, yep, that's Daniel.
"Daniel! Don't do that. You half scared me to death!" I sighed out as I lowered my arms and stood straight, "What are you doing in my room anyway? You can't just come in here and scare me like that." I walked back to bed and slipped my knife back in its usual spot.
I turned around and cocked one hip to the side, crossing my arms and giving him a slight glare.
He chuckled and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, only to wake you up. I just thought I'd let you know that the Alpha wishes to see you at 10. You've been asleep for ages and I just thought I'd get you up considering it's almost 9:30." He leaned against the doorframe with crossed arms and a slight smirk on his face. I looked to my bedside table only to see that the clock did indeed read 9:27. I gasped and bee-lined straight for my closet.
"Why didn't you wake me up sooner!" I exclaimed, grabbing a pair of white shorts and a set of underwear. I could hear the grin in his voice when he said "I thought you'd be up sooner. I didn't realise I wore you out that much last night."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed a black tank top with a thin, white cardigan. After getting changed quickly I sped walked out of the closet and into my bathroom. "Oh be quiet. I kicked your ass last night. You really need to work on those combat skills of yours," I said with amusement. I went straight to my toothbrush and toothpaste and began cleaning my teeth.
